how about a tiny bit of WD 40 on a q tip to loosen it?

Do you know any dog groomers? They can fix anything, lol and hair is their specialty.

Light a match and pass it briefly by the hair. It will singe off. Be careful not to let the flame touch the chicken or feathers. It may be uncomfortable for her, but it will be brief and she will recover. The intent is to singe the hair not burn the foot.

I don't want people to tell memo am a bad pet owner but.. What do I do if she loses her toe? I don't think it's fair to just cull her. Can someone just tell me what to do if she loses her toe? Do I need certain antibiotics? How to care for it? Etc.

If you have tried everything and still it doesn't work than i would tend to think its not what you think it is- maybe there was a hair or string or fishing line and its now gone and your seeing the indent/cut from where it was... if not than you HAVE to remove it. If you walked into any vets office , a tech can and will help you snip it off. You CANNOT leave it there... you asked what antibiotics the chick would need if it loses the toe--- my question is where would you get those antibiotics?- because wherever you would get them from ie vets office , feed store, etc thats where they could help you remove the string / hair.
To leave it on there would be cruel and unusual - even if you cannot get it off yourself , you have to find someone who can.
a neighbor? a friend? a parent? grandparent? the mailman- --- someone will help you if you ask

This is an interesting dilemma to me. Believe it or not, I have been wondering what I would do if this happened to my chicks. I do not have my babies yet. I plan to get them tomorrow. The reason I had this thought was because it happened to me with my baby daughter when she was a couple months old. It took me a long time to figure out why she was so fussy. I finally discovered one of my long hairs had wrapped round and round two of her toes. Her poor little toes were very puffy and very red. Thankfully I found it when I did. I felt like a horrible new mommy. So I totally understand your panic. However, as a much older mom, I now know that you have to keep calm in order to handle a crisis. So take some deep breaths and try to calm down. I am watching to see what your solution is. Good luck. We are all pulling for you.
