Hair wrapped around toe! Help! *UPDATE* She is doing good!

If you do nothing in an effort not to cause any pain, your bird is going to suffer much more pain and for a much longer time. Please get that hair off, let her freak out. Wrap her head/body in a towel and just get that sucker off. She will forget about it quick, and she'll keep her toe.

That's not my problem though. I don't even know if something like nair is safe to use on chickens so if I put it on her foot I don't want to hurt her even more because its digging right into her foot. I can't get manicure scissors under it or a pin. I just hate seeing her foot like that. If I used nair it would get t off but I don't want to hurt her even more if it isn't safe.

If you can't at least try to help the bird, it might be kinder to go ahead a cull it. It would save it from a lot of suffering that it is going to go through if you can't bring yourself to do something.
Sorry to sound cruel, but it is much more cruel to let a poor animal suffer like this.

People have had chickens whose foot has fallen off. I won't cull if I can find someway to get it off.

This actually might work.

Don't see how it's hurt too much to try.

It's really cutting right into her foot though. Wouldn't that hurt really bad?

Ditto Robin. Do you have a regular vet for other pets? This wouldn't require avian. I'm sure they'd be glad to help the poor little thing.......

If you are not willing to do it, try posting a help wanted ad on Craigslist and have somebody come do it for you. It does need to come off. If it doesn't, the toe will fall off. Think of how painful that would be to the chick compared to a little discomfort getting it off now.
