Half Shell Hatch-A-Long! (Caution, unsuccessful, please read whole thread before attempting)

Pics
#3 is also shadowing. Pushing on the membrane a lot with his/her head. It's so dark compared to #1.

Here's #2, now that I messed up the order, lol. This is the one I opened the air cell in, and it's greasy from the ointment. I was able to pull the weird bacteria spot off with tweezers. This one and #1 are day 16 today, will be day 17 early in the morning. I'm making air holes in the membrane in both of these tomorrow evening, since I think ET and my sister's half shell one died from lack of oxygen. I will also remove the saran wrap from #1 and #2 tomorrow.
Ok, #2. I don't have a lot of hope for this one unfortunately.

Yeah that looks like bacteria. I would take that one out of the incubator. What do you think @FortCluck

And here's #4, the one who got cloudy after I applied the ointment. It's on day 14. I don't know about this one... Partially because I can't see it 😂
I candled all of them today (shined my phone flashlight in on a dark room, and the veining looks great on all 4.
#4.

Sorry for the bad pic, but it's the best one.

I'm not sure there's much you can do at this stage. The veins still look good on the first one despite the cloudiness. You are in unknown territory after all.

It's amazing they are so active at this stage. Perhaps they are so active because they are preparing to move into the correct hatch position?

Hmm, the veins between 1 and 3 are so different! Or perhaps the clouding on 1 makes them really stand out??

I don't know what shadowing is vs regular movement, but I'm often surprised at seeing how hard they can kick and jerk around in the egg. I don't know what to say on the clouding.

Ok. Yeah, she's very active. If they were full shelled I'm almost positive they'd be shadowing during candling. #1 is a little nut. She's kicking like mad in there.

This is kind of unknown territory for most of us but I do know that the membrane will eventually turn white before the chicks are ready for hatch. I know this from assisting and needing to apply ointment to make the membrane translucent again but I don't actually know at what point this happens. I also think the darker chick may just have darker plumage?

Thanks for replying. Yeah, I don't know :idunno
Shadowing is what they do a few days before internal pip. It's where you can see a tiny bit of them moving around in the air cell. I think maybe they're loosening the membrane when they do that or something? But don't quote me on that.
