Halloween Hatch Along - Setting Oct. 10th

Oh boy! Its about to get busy around here. Welcome to those joining in!

Shrink wrapped chicks can be helped. I had one that would have never made it no way no how, if it werent for me intervening. And i couldnt have done it without reading and most of all seeing the video of assisted hatch. So BIG thank you for sharing any and all info regarding that. It really is a delicate thing to do, but it can be done much more confidently after seeing the video and understand a few things about the process. I reccommend doing it if you really need to. Its something i will never forget.

I had a 6 hour power outtage as soon as my last chick hatched on my first hatching a few months ago. I literally laid a towel down on my bed and laid down with them for 6 hours so i could provide heat for them. I just figured it in as a "sick day" and read and crocheted. I would do the same if they were eggs. But thats just me. It defoinitely got very warm and uncomfortable, but i didnt lose any chicks so it was worth it.

I am sure the "old timers" are cracking up at this story. Lol.

The beauty of hatching together on BYC is you have support! Keep us posted.

OMG!!! So exciting!!! I hope atleast one of mine comes early (and healthy) so it lands on halloween. 4 of the eggs are strting to rock a little. But i guess that could go on for days.

FUN! FUN! FUN! Time to nest!

Cool I love the rocking eggs. Good luck to all and Happy Hatching.
I now have a little blue chick, and 7 Piping eggs.

I'm waiting anxiously to return home. I'm about to leave work and I wanna return to some pips! Luckily Sandy played nice and didn't knock my power out. That was considerate of her.

My first just came out! Turns out it's a Java (and my guess was right for that egg!). Haven't seen much from the others, and baby Aspen's so loud I can't hear if the other ones are peeping or not. I'm pretty sure more than one was squeaking last night though.

All eleven eggs (we lost F around week 7). They've got letters on one side and numbers on the other.
Baby Aspen (Java)--of course she's in the hardest spot to photograph, so it's really blurry.

Congrats on the little chick! No pips when I got home today. Darn it, this is nerve wracking, and I've already done it three times! I guess it's just because these little guys are from my own birds - I really want them to do okay!
