Halloween Hatch Along - Setting Oct. 10th

The hatching divider is made from plastic canvas, linked together with thread. I already had some on hand, but Walmart sells it too, and most craft places. It only worked for a couple of hours, but it was long enough to start using food coloring on the similar colored ones.

So far I've got seven out of ten, and the other three have pipped and are still peeping/rocking. I can't believe they've done so well--it's not my fault. Beginner's luck, I guess. So far we've got a female black star, a male cinnamon queen, and five blue splash marans (in very light-colored eggs for marans, but they're the only thing on the assortment list that color).

Congrats to everyone!

Oh, and cluck-cluck, Aspen looks so big in that picture because she's being held by a four-year-old. So it's not really a big chick, just small hands

I have a chick! Sheesh... I really thought I was going to have a 100% failed hatch. I also have one more egg who has pipped. Let's hope my lonesome chick gets a mate!!!!

When I got up early this morning and saw the one hatched chick I couldn't help but candle the others (thinking I had no more pips. Luckily my humidity didn't get down below 60%). It seems like the rest of mine (other than the pipped one) will not hatch. They must have stopped developing at some point between lock down and now

Let's just hope this last one hurries up so that the lonely chick isn't lonely for long! Pictures to come

Just went outside to see if it pipped yet. It's 12:35. It hasn't pipped yet but I brought a flashlight and candled and could see the shape of it's face!!! And it peeped:) By the way, it's name is Boo:)
