Halloween Hatch Along - Setting Oct. 10th

cluck-cluck - my chicks (and the boy in my avatar) and modern game bantams. They are awesome chickens! Great personalities.. don't lay a heap and wouldn't be any good for eating lol but they make up for it!

Chick1043 - is boo your first to hatch? Do you have any others? Look forward to seeing pics when it is all fluffy!!!

Pyxis - pity to hear your other 4 are not doing anything yet!

Sometimes I am finding the chick with the bent toes upside down asleep! I have given them some vitamins and things. I really would have culled it by now if I didn't have only one other chick! I really hope it makes it.... but I'm not 100% sure it will. It is eating and drinking happy enough, but no where near as crazy and happy as the other one!

Fingers crossed for the rest of your eggs... and also for the 4 eggs that are under my broody and expected on the 10th of this month! (I also have about 17 under a broody due on the 21st!)

Yay for fuzzies! Keep the picture coming

Boo is actually my third hatch:)

I'm pretty sure I've said it before, but your boy is just stunning, all the colors! amazing!

The little one that falls over, make sure he doesn't get too hot, they kind of fall asleep when on their back, so they can over heat and die. He probably just can't get back up very well, and then falls asleep. (actually, their lungs get pressured and then they conserve energy in that position after a little bit)

Don't know about you all, but we've eaten all our candies, and now I fear we're all going to go through sugar withdrawal over here. It's gonna get grumpy!!! Hope everyone's Halloween was great!

That's YOUR roo, cluck-cluck????? I thought it was some good looking roo you had found on google images!! You're soo lucky!! That roo is so pretty! Ive never seen a roo like that before!

awww thanks for the compliments about my rooster guys! I think he is pretty handsome as well! I purchased him earlier this year when I decided to get into breeding and showing Modern Game Bantams. I went on a hunt across Australia to find some really neat birds and he was one I was luck enough to get my hands on! I have some lovely birds here which are a credit to their breeders. Let's hope I can hatch some of their offspring!

My 2 little chicks are doing well. The one with the curled feet seems to be very happy today! It is much faster and a lot more active (although it did have a pasty butt - and is now missing some fluff!) I'm not sure what I'll do with it though..... it won't be suitable for my breeding pens and due to its bent toes it will also be no good for showing. Hopefully I'll be able to find it a new home once it gets older.

I didn't get any candy at halloween! We live out in the country so we didn't get any trick or treaters either! Hope your sugar withdrawal passes quickly

sooo where are everyones picture updates? Bring on the pictures!!!

Well, I guess I can post my Halloween trio here (though I also posted in the Serama thread) Egghead still has egg on his/her head, but it seems to not bother him/her so I'm leaving it alone ;P

Egghead is in the middle and I just call the right one blondie and the left one blackie, LOL. I'm sure I'll come up with much better names once their personalities and their gender are known :D

They eat like birds! I mean, very little, and very little water. I'm not exaggerating when I say more water is evaporated than drunk! They're so tiny, I find it hard to imagine my 3 week old was once that small, but i know he was :) I'm sure they've already grown!

Larry, Moe and Curly!

They are so cute cluck-cluck!!! It is amazing how little they eat isn't it! It doesn't take long for them to turn into pigs though!

Here is a picture of my pair that I took just now! I love their straight little legs. They stand up so tall compared to normal chicks! (That is a characteristic of a modern game)

I hope my broody that is due to have chicks hatch in 5 days has success. If she does I will also give her this pair to raise. They are currently living in my office in a temporary cardboard box brooder! My other brooder is too big for these little guys... I'm afraid they would get lost in it!
