HALLOWEEN HATCH!!! Anyone

In a few minutes it will be, "Day 21!" I have not a single early arrival. Now, isn't that unusual? Hhhmmmm, what is taking so long? I tried singin' to 'em, reading to 'em, dancin' the jig, you name it ...... nothing .... Only one cheeping baby even talkin' to me! The other 2 pips haven't even moved! They are drivin' me nuts!

that's pretty much how mine started on wed night too... a pip and his beak coming out, an in.. and out... and inn... but he was making no zipping progress....

i would pop the whole a little bigger carefully.. try to stay in the air cell till you know what's going on.....
and then play it from there... make sure you're working in a warm area so the little guy doesn't get cold...

as far as me being quite the little doctor.. lol.. not so much.. i just do my research before i start on a project.. and continue while i go... i've been reading a lot here and other places.. and my mom who's an RN was over my shoulder.. she has no clue about chickens though so was really just making me claustrophobic.. lol.. but her and my 14 yr old had come over to see the babies and were excited when i said this one might hatch.. but then when he didn't get anywhere and i decided to step in they were curious...

between growing up with a nurse for a mom, and having a hubby that was a paramedic for 11 yrs, and doing the girl scout thing, and having a dad who grew up in the mountains in idaho... i got a fairly decent background in how to take care of whatever needs taking care of.. i shoulda had stitches like 3 times in the last year and just tougher it out with steri strips and proper care.. lol...

been thinking about looking into the online schools for homeopathic vets though... i know there's a huge call for them... and i think i'd like to do it... and it would make all my pets a tax write off ... maybe... lol....

i need to find a financial backer for a feed store/ homeopathic vet/ farm/ farmers market... rofl.... and hubby wants a bar with a rodeo arean, so might as well throw that into the back 40 acres....

YAY! evonne is back ......

Hey, I'm an RN. And my vote counts ....... NULL ....
Honestly though, I really don't know what to tell ya. I have helped, but usually it is not a good thing. That said, I just had 2 from the first hatch that pipped and quit. Made me sick when I saw that. Poor babies...

LOL @ eviction notice

Evonne, how cool that you want to become a homeopathic vet. You should do it...!

I'm facing yet another intervention here shortly...

I have just three eggs left in the 'bator. All three are talking or tapping, but one pipped at 2:00 p.m. yesterday, and no progress at all since then. Been keeping the humidity up into the 70s as much as possible, but even through the 'bator window I can see the membrane around the hole is dark and leathery looking. I so wanted these last three to come out on their own, but I also don't want to lose one. Baby is cheeping strongly, and starting to sound a little p*ssed. LOL

It's such a hard decision - help, not help. Especially when such fragile little lives are in the middle. I mean, I intervened with the two small end pippers, and now I have two more precious little fluffybutts running around the brooder, so that is a good outcome. However, I've also been on the other end of the spectrum - I helped when I should not have, and it ended very badly. I guess one just has to go with one's gut instinct, and even then do think long and hard before you pick up the tweezers.

Okay, enough of my feeble two cents. Back to the party... LOL
