i think i might have to sneak to san diego and get some of those long tailed birds.. wow.....
every day i find more and more i want to get and breed....
i need more property.. or just more $$ so i can ask the landlord if i can expand the fence.. lol.. if they don't lose the property to forclosure... blah....

That sounds like a very cool goal. I've always thought Jungle fowl were lovely birds. A white tail would be amazing on a bird like the one in the picture you showed me.

Igor has some sons with our Australorp x EE and I'm interested to see if the all black one gets his white tail feathers. (Yes, that makes them rather mixed up mutts, but they are friendly mixed up mutts.)

Evonne, there's a place here with 21 acres on Lake Fontana that we could buy and split.

OOHHH we can let brian have cattle on like 15 acres, and we get 1/2 acre each for houses, on opposite sides of the rmaining and that leaves 5 acres for our goats and chickens...

You can get Speckled Sussex eggs from RAREROO. That's what my Halloween hatch is.

Can't wait. I saw some little bodies bouncing around in their eggs already. I Love this!!!

For the last day or so i have been noticeing that my thermostat seems to have stopped working. I noticed my hygro. was reading 99...but my 2 LG thermometers were reading in the 101 to 102 area. This is a forced air by the way. Last time i hatched all my chicks was when the hygro was reading 97 and my LG's were reading 99 to 100. So i have tried to bump the thermostat down with no result showing on ether of the 3 thermometers. "My bumps have not been small ether...were talking quater to almost half turns here" I was candleing on day 14 for myself for the 2nd time today. I got about 6 eggs in and noticed my red light was not blinking or comeing on. It allways did it before on my last hatch to indicate it was trying to re-adjust from me opening the incubator to candle. I touched the heating element that goes all the way around on the inside of the bator and it was cool to the touch. I mean i was not expecting burning hot...but some sort of heat ya know??

So i don't know wether to rush out and buy a new LG bator because it's the only thing locally i can get my hands on...or just chance it. Since candleing, the temps inside dropped to about 88-90. So i stopped on egg 6 or 7 and realized what could be going wrong....so i quickly put the top back in place. So about 15 min later i go to check what the temps are reading and they are climbing...from about 90 to 95 now.

AHHHH!! What should i do??? When i lift the top up about 6 inches i quickly put my hand/for-arm inside the bator and i felt warm heat. SO NOW i think the thermostat is not totaly broken. I really don't know what to think at this moment. It's allmost as if its acting STUCK...no matter what adjustment i make...up or down....it nether get's hotter or colder??

Oh how terrible!!! Sorry.. My last 3 from little giant were broke I never noticed thought I was a terrible hatcher... My hubby said isnt this fan suppose to be running I thought the fan turned on and off (nope)Returned it got a new one same thing.. Hubby went back to the store opened all the boxes and found 1 that worked..Thank gosh the guy who runs the feed store was so nice..But my eggs were toast... Little giant said it must have been a bad batch...

So sorry hope you incubator corrects itself...Maybe you could unplug it then plug it back it..

Edit: Just checked the manual, say's the light may not be comeing on due to my bator being pluged into a surge protector. I do have it plugged into a power strip....i don't remember if power strips have surge protection or not, but im guessing they are thinking if my LG is not comeing on. They could be refering to the switch on the power strip, thinking i turned it off or it flipped off...but i know its running just fine because my fan is running 100% so i know my bator is getting full power.

Has anyone else experianced this before? Maby my red indicator light just burnt out?? I do remember last time when i was adjusting the thermostat when i first got the bator that if you listen carefully, you can actually hear a faint noise as your turn the temp knob on the bator. Kind of like a "errrr errrr sound" lol. It is still makeing that sound when i turn the temp knob.

My hatch is rolling along for All Hallows Eve... when today I hear peeping in the cabinet bator which... can NOT be happening.
Wayyyyy too early, impossible early...

No it's not DUFUS if you forget that you put in a few eggs for testing the week before you set the Halloween eggs.

I'd forgotten them and I mean forgotten them in all the chaos of the last several days (long story). No turning, no raising the humidity - nuthin... total idiocy and four of five hatched anyway. One pipped and got dried and stuck - totally my fault

but evidently those rules are a tad bendable.

I've been turning the main tray and just totally forgot I'd added the others on a whim and Laura moved my calendar to the kitchen. Bingo, instant idiot.

BTW I have four rescue PYRs now. Should anyone need a good stock dog, a couch one, okay three couch ones - they're here and need homes. That would be the start of the long story... busy busy me.
