YaY!!!
ducklings are ssoo cute... you are aware that they are messy?? VERY MESSY.....
i still haven't gotten the stuff off the walls from where they were in their cage.....
you have somewhere not in the house to keep them after a few days??
and just for reference, my ducks and chickens have been together in the same run since i got them.... i know some people say not to keep them together...

They are in the bathroom at the moment, in a big rubbermaid container full of packed down hay for a walking surface. And yes, they will be messy. I expect it. I lived in a town that was overrun with feral muscovies. I'm very familiar with what they can do to a pond. For the moment, two Khaki Campbells in a brooder don't worry me that much. I expect to separate them out if more get added and as they grow.

I just checked on them. I think they woke up and tried to groom the chicks, which distressed them a bit. I tried introducing them to food and water. They don't seem that interested yet. Probably tomorrow they will be.

As for the "somewhere not in the house" well...It's been getting awfully cold at night lately. Today was warmer than it's been all this week. I think we are stuck with ducks in the house for a little while at least.

I agree with neferset, evonne .... you need to notify the occupants of the bator about their eviction date AND TIME ! ! !

Ducks .... eeewwweee, MESSY! They are not for me; no thank you. I have very clean chickens. Now, mind you, my patio, my deck, my sidewalk, my yard, etc are another story..... I'm gonna get a sign posted (like I read somewhere) saying, "Watch Your Step ...... Chickens Live Here!"

ETA: Oh, BTW, my friend's ducks killed 4 of her chicks.

I am listening very closely to any noises coming from that brooder. The chicks in it range in age from 1 week to day olds due to a series of staggered hatches. Plus the two ducks. For the most part, everyone seems sleepy, except for the little grooming incident. I purposely waited until late to introduce them, once I realized I was going to.

How did it happen that your friend's duck killed chicks? Was it an adult or a day old like my two? They are bigger than the chicks, but they are outnumbered 7 to 1 and I was rather worried in the opposite direction.

Now I am not for sure, but I believe they a couple weeks old. All the same age, and had always been together, in a very very large area. She kept losing chicks and thought she had a predator, then found out it was the ducks. She has only 3 ducks, and had a dozen chicks.

Haha. You don't necessarily have to buy it from me or anyone that I know but if you are planning to get some, please inform me so I could at least point you in the right direction as what to look for, how to care, etc. Good?
