I'm on official lockdown - No activity yet, tho... *sigh* I'm getting so nervous, and having terrible nesting urges. I've spent the last day and a half vacuuming and cleaning... for chicks.

My mom thinks I'm going broody - keeps asking if I'm having contractions yet.

Hi there y'all. I've been following your thread daily and thought I ought to come out of the closet. I'm new to chickens but am going crazy waiting for hatch day. I set 28 eggs late on Oct 9th and expect them Thursday evening to Friday. I moved my 23 remaining eggs to a hatching tray yesterday in my home made bator and the temp went all haywire. I was up half the night with worry and checking the temp constantly. It went down to 95 and up to 102.5 Now I'm wanting to candle to see if they're OK. It's soo hard to wait. Any advice?

I hope you have enjoyed our thread. Happy to have you here! I agree with Fluffy-Butt-Farms .... i think you will be fine. I wouldn't take them out to candle. Just leave them and see how it goes. Best of luck!

advice???

sit on your hands....
get the brooder ready....
get the run and coop ready....

and if your desperate, you can hand place every piece of straw into their future nest...

I did one last candling tonight and only two were duds...so 50 something will be hatching by weekend! Mostly EEs but hopefully a few of the brown eggs(BRXEE) will be Turken EEs...(I forgot those hens were in that pen until A day or two ago (Oh Well might make something cool)). I was trying for a Barred, Green legged, muffed and bearded EE. I made one that is a RIR EE and she turned out Red with green legs muff and beard AND she lays pretty blue-green eggs!
So its possible!

Good Hatching to All! Pics as soon as possible!

How about checking the temperatures every hour on the hour to make sure that what I did to prevent the temps from crashing didn't make them spike, driving myself batty, and spending the rest of the day trying to concentrate on work (which I can't talk about in public) when I really just want to go to sleep safe in the knowledge that I saved the lives of two sweet baby birds?

And this is just the first day of my Halloween hatch. I'm doomed...

Oh, denasfarm, be careful with your Turkens. I tried to introduce mine to the some of the other young members of the flock and apparently the naked necks make them look like they are wounded and need to be futher pecked. So, one of my guys is in a hospital pen and the other is with his hatch mate EEs who don't think there's anything wrong with him.
