grats on your babies....now have them tell mine to make noise or something. they're due tomorrow and i dont have a pip, peep or nothing (25 of them).

the only thing different is that it's a still air, so the temp at the wire is aroudn 100.3 on the walmart hygro...and jsut a little under on the hova therm... think the cooler temp is gonna delay them a bit?

i'm not good at this waiting stuff.

same here sorta. i will be starting day 19 at 3:30 pm today and have yet to see any rocking or hear any peeping. Im just hopeing i did everything right and that they will all be hatched on day 21 lol. My last hatch i got chicks on day's 20,21, and 22.

That's how it usually is for me. Day 20, 21, and 22. I seldom get any on day 23 that are strong enough to live long. This day 18 thing is new for me with a standard chick, though.

What's the deal with the humidity anyway? I have added water 3 times this morning, and can not get it stay up. I want 65%, and am getting 63% max, down to 50s. Geez, and I have to go to work. I will need to come home on lunch break to add water I guess. I am not hearing or seeing any action, but I am not standing over the bator this time either.

I'm spoiled mine all bail out within 24 hours of each other or they're stuck. Usually backwards or a foot wrong, or one weirdly dried out for no real reason. The late ones make me crazy now. I couldn't stand it stretched over two or three days and lasting until day 22 or more. I'd go nuts.

Now what i use is a small grey grease trap tray that comes with a George Forman Grill. It's long and has the PERFECT ammount of surface area for getting the humidity you desire. I have 2 small coral sponges in the plastic dish as well to help keep the humid where i want it if im away or cannot get to it to re-fill it back with water. It's sitting at 69% humidity as we speak holding steady...when the chicks hatch hopefully it will normally go up to around 73 to 74% naturally due to the moisture being released from the chicks eggs.

I have to add a lot of water now but mine is an odd situation. It's a cabinet bator on the porch. It's cold out now, it runs more. To keep any humidity at all I have to fill the pan half full, at least twice a day. Otherwise I look and the humidity is in the 20's because I forgot.
