i know it's no help now, but what kind of wax are you using??

certain candles are made of different waxes.. and the ones made of paraffin are nice because the wax wont burn you.. i'm thinking if it wont burn you it's brobly safer for the eggs....
the ones from party lights are like this.. and i know a lot of other are too....

if anyone else has any info on the particulars of which kind of wax???

i think i will have to add some of these candles to my pet emergency kit i'm putting together...
decided i needed on after having to go out and clean a cut on my goat and realizing i should have a certain number of things in a specific pet box.... like the roll of horse tape that i took out there and it rolled around in the dirt.. would use it on a minor animal injury now, but not on a major human one.. etc...
and i need to get all the otc meds and whatnot that i can use on them and print a list of what's what....

anyway.. back to your eggs and the wax... good luck.. be careful with the flames...

Thanks for the info re: candles. I used the only one I had on hand that was unscented, thinking whatever is used to make a candle smell nice would probably not be good for chicks. It was pretty hot, but after taking a close look at just how damaged most of them were, I don't think it'll make a difference - I would not be surprised if some most of them didn't survive the fall. Two seem undamaged, two had minor cracks/dents, and the rest were pretty mashed, although, surprisingly, not a single one broke its membrane. No blood, yolk, or fluid on any of them. The more damaged ones are setting on damp paper towel in a paper egg carton, large end up, the others large end up but not on p.t. I quickly candled each before waxing - only two showed any movement.

Thank you so much for the quick advice. I'll quit hijacking the Halloween thread now - I should have started a new one I guess but I was panicking. Now I'm just sad.

Ahhh!!! What a nightmare.

Hang in there, I think its difficult to see movement when they get this far because they fill so much of the shell. So, not seeing them move, especially the ones that aren't damaged, might be OK?

I had to lock my incubators (and brooders) into a walkin closet, because if it wasn't the cats showing too much interest, the 3 year old (his b'day's the night before halloween) wants to "squish the eggs". my last hatch on day 17 he smashed 3 baby eggs. (wanted to smash him) lol. so now everything gets locked up.
