Halloween ~ Hatch Day!

Quote:
I don't have a separate hatcher. I'm going to push the humidity to 50, try to keep it under 65 and hopefully that won't flood the slower ones. It's all I really can do. And handle any individual eggs that seem to be hatching and too dry as individuals rather than letting the humidity run so high it endangers the others. Got eyedropper, syringe and clean rags to wrap an egg in if I need to.

I'll just pay attention and "sit" them as best I can and hope. Fortunately I can just be here with them and don't have to go anywhere.

Awww that stinks! You have done very well though in my opinion

I can't wait to see all of these chick pics!!!

Yeah, well, I will check again tonight to see if there is any movement.

Any predictions? I am going to guess that mine will start hatching on the 30th.

Yeah I have a few that are staggered. Once I crank up the humidity for the silkies, I wonder what will happen to the later ones.
hmm.png

I am holding off on getting my next batch of eggs until the week ofNov. 3. Then I am getting BO's, SLW's & BA's....& hopefully I can get some Welsummers too or another line of blue Silkies.

Chuckle next month for me is another attempt at turkeys and some dark cornish, since my turkey guy's cornish started laying again. OH YAY.

Ok, I looked again at the suspected quitter & I think it is dead. I will crack it open tomorrow.

I also have a couple of Bantie eggs that have become suspicious.

The others are looking good. The chicks are really growing fast in there now! What a difference a couple of days has made!

About 1 more week guys! I am getting eggcited!

I am on day 14 and so far it looks like I have 14 out of 16 BR chickies growing. I can't wait!!

I'm on day 8 on the penedesencas and can't see a thing cuz of those dark shells....

We're looking good here...just a bit full

!

I have 9 of my original BO's left (out of 16) , 1 Polish, 2 BR (out of 8, 4 of each) and today... I added a bunch of silkies (partridge, buff, white, blue, black & splash) a few green eggs and some dark, dark brown ones (green=Ameracauna? supposedly, though I'll just call them EE's to be safe, and supposedly, penedesenca X and a maran) and to round it out, some blue standard cochins.

So all together, I have 39 eggs in my bator.

Course the original BO's will be moving to the hatcher on Tues. so that'll free up some space and the BR and Polish don't look like they are developing either...
barnie.gif
so that'll leave some more space... just enough room for some Blue Orpingtons I think!

Has anyone started setting up there brooders? I know Chere already has some chickies...and so does Shelleyd2008...anyone else getting ready?

I've started...I have a 100 gal. aquarium to start them in and then 2 frog kiddy pools to switch them over to...and then a kids playyard if they out-grow all of those. We'll see!

I can't see ANYTHING! They are just full of darkness. I can see the air pocket but that's it. I guess that's a good thing.

I HOPE these chicks are doing well!

For a brooder...I have a small wire cage, a dog crate or a rubbermaid to choose from

I want to see pics of the 100 gal! My husband has a 220 in the basement

I am a newbie, since my hatch, due 10/15, was a total failure.
I have 9 Silkies in - due Halloween. Here's my question: How much do these embryo blobs move? If I have a "something" that tends to stay to one side is it likely a "winner"? If it floats to the surface, is it a "quitter"?
C'mon, experienced hatchers - Share!

I have a 100 gal. horse water tank that I will be using from my brooder out in the pole barn. That should do the trick! But we have some real crappy weather heading our way so if they hatch early, I may have to keep them inside somewhere....not sure where due to 6 crazy poodles!

Ok, to try & answer BayCityBabe....my quitter looked like a small blob that just stayed in one place on the side. The ones that are still alive you can see moving. I have a real powerful flashlight & I think it warms them up enough that they can feel it thru the shell & then they really get moving around. Now, they are a bit bigger & it is harder to see them move. Hope that helps.

Sounds like we all are going to get some hatches. Kelly....39 eggs!

Can't remember if I posted before but my next batch will be the week of Nov.3rd....I am going to add BO, SLW, & BA's & if I can get some blue slikies the same time, I will add some of those which will give me about 42....gee just what my egg turner holds
