Halloween ~ Hatch Day!

Were these shipped eggs? That can make the air sac seperate from the shell. Actually makes all the insides move around, but same idea.

When you first put the eggs in the bator, the temp will get a bit squirrelly!

Yes, all but three were shipped so they're a bit scrambled.

Glad to know it's common for bators to have hiccups at first. It made me crazy.

Seeing wiggles is just the most amazing thing. sigh

Thanks for the reply. Chere

I am sooo curious! After hearing about all of you candling...it really makes me want to check mine out! Grrrrrr... patience is a virtue....patience is a virtue....patience is a virtue....patience is a virtue....patience is a virtue....If I say that enough times, maybe I'll believe it!

Yeah a good rule with any incubator is to put the eggs in and walk away for a few hours, then come back and adjust if needed.

The shipped eggs are the worst!! I had 18 cortunix quail eggs shipped to me, and I have 6 left that aren't scrambled. Out of those, there are 4 that are developing, one that looks clear, and 1 I can't see into.

But it is really neat when you see the little kickers in there! Especially if it is in a lot of them!! Good luck!

I'm in the club! Mine are due the evening of Oct 30th. I have some silkies and frizzles from tubersnroots and a few silkies and buff brahma's of our own. I think the girls decided they better get on the ball or else!

I have held off on candling (

) because I feel it is so important to abstain from touching them as much as possible. Oil from your hands can kill the embryo. make sure you wash your hands with good antibacterial soap and dry them real good before handling the eggs. Then only open the bator for a short period of time.

It is all I can do to not peek! Kind of like knowing where the Christmas presents are but you cannot open them!

I have never seen on with 2 air sacs!! Do you have a pic of that? Is it, or could it be, a double yolk? I have heard they can have 2 air sacs.

No I don't but I will try to get one tonight. I don't know if you will be able to tell though...you can really tell when you tilt it a little. Anyway I will try! I can't tell if there is more than 1 yolk by looking but it isn't a large egg so I wouldn't guess so. I have about 3 eggs that the shells are so thick (I guess?) all I can see is the shadow of where the yolk is. That is one of them but the ends I can still see through...strange really.
