Halloween ~ Hatch Day!

congrats to all I am at 11 hatched and still pipping going on so its wait time again. The little pullet is still alive and doing good so far. I am giving her poly vi sol vitamins. Will just have to wait and she how she does. I got the bleeding stopped by putting her in the brooder and holding a pressure bandage on the bleeding so at least she is not losing anymore blood

I dont know that I would put them with 2 week old chicks at least not at first. There is a lot of growing in chicks in two weeks and the newly hatched cant compete, My two week old babies have discovered they have wings and they fly in the air and land on their littler mates. I dont think a new chick could handle that.

If they have plenty of room, they should be fine. Mine were. I added 9 day-olds to a group of 3 week-olds, I don't know if it was because they were outnumbered or what!! I also added to that group 12 day-olds, when the youngest of the first group were about a week old, then added 4 more 3-day-olds to the group, when the youngest was about 1-2 weeks, and everyone is doing just fine!!

I plan on adding my coming babies to the mix as well. I will wait till the new ones are a few days old, and getting around pretty good before tossing them in. I usually wait till they start to smell like chickens before I take them out to the big brooder!! Right now the birds in the box are a mix of standards and bantams, from 1 to 6 or 7 weeks old.

Is it normal for chicks to be interested in each others eyes and toes? They keep pecking at each other, screaming and jumping away. One in particular (#2, Nugget...since he's a gold nugget

) Is such a turd and he keeps pecking eyes.

I'm afraid someone's going to get hurt!

Mine always peck each others toes. I haven't had any that pecked the eyes though. The egg tooth or nose, yes, but not the eyes. Did you show them where the feed is? As long as there is no blood drawn, they should be fine.

Okay guys, I have avoided this thread for fear of failure or jinxing my hatch. (not sure which). Anyway, I am hatching some mutts for my first time experience and they are due tomorrow. Not knowing what I am doing has made me pretty nervous, but today I could hear them chirp from inside the bator! I am getting more and more excited the closer the time gets, probably a good thing that I am not going to be home this evening to worry over them! Congrats to all who have already hatched, I have enjoyed following this thread!
