no silkies were bantam....wonder twins ended up medium size.....these are the 3 silkies.....i don’t have any pics of the buff orpington as I was really hoping daddy would have been the welsummer.....all my girls were rehomed with friends/family and all boys were sent to freezer camp so i currently have zero chickens

Thanks!! That makes sense. I was thinking of ordering one online. Figured off the shelf wouldn’t be too good. Are ordered ones not much better? I appreciate you drawing it for me. Although, maybe this is a stupid question, but what do you put in it? Like use for the media? I don’t see that anywhere? Maybe I am missing it?

I forgot to put that in the drawing, lol. I use K3 Kaldnes in the moving bed filter on my pond, and I use polyester batting as the prefilter material. I made the pre filter basket on mine out of plastic egg crate / lighting diffuser.

Did you see the chart/picture in the second link though?

It said a brown layer and a white layer should result in a very light brown egg color. So that would probably be what eggs from this cross would look like since Orpingtons are brown egg layers. Although of course it would depend on exactly what shade the parents lay. They should be very good layers though being crossed with Leghorn.

I;m hoping for something along the same lines, so I can easily tell the crosses and the purebreds before I even set them. With a Silkie Papa and a JG Mama, I should get a lighter brown egg, too ... fingers crossed. I didn't cross them deliberately. They were in my overflow pen - anything not a Nankin and not an extra rooster. I stuck them in when I set the Nanny eggs for Halloween - and I'm glad I did. They were the only ones that hatched!

LOL, I'm not sure how filtration would work on that, though.

So those fertile eggs I got from the farm, I highly doubt any will hatch. I just chucked one with the sandpaper shell, it had a bunch of tiny bubbles in it.

NEVER again will I buy eggs from this place I don't even care if I hatch a 24k gold chicken
