No, no. Not penguin quail. I was joking about real penguins.
Most hatch alongs, I (and other MIA members) joke about hatching; hamster, penguin, unicorn, pegasus, rattle snake, dinosaur, elephant etc. eggs.

Well, you never know. I'd hatch out whatever eggs I could determine the bator settings for, ya know?

I don't know when it happened but we jumped to like 9ish or so

in the bator! It's hard to count with babies, eggs & shells rolling and flopping all over the place.

Curiosity got me and I candled today. Looks like only 4 out of 15 developing. Womp wooomp. I'll give em another week before I pull clears, just in case.

The 1 is of a bobwhite pair, the rest are different coturnix varieties. I hope for the coturnix to be more pet like than the quail. My chickens, guineas & ducks will eat out of my hand and sit in my lap. Do you need a wildlife permit to keep bobwhites? I'd love to have them in my back yard, if only to ear the whistle I always heard as a child. They're pretty much gone from the wild around here, now ... and I miss them!
