Halloween/Thanksgiving Hatch-a-Long 2019

They had no more eggs. I got a half dozen but one broke before I arrived. I'll tell you one thing, their shell quality is horrible! They feel gritty, my eggs feel smooth. Must be what they feed them.

That’s really weird!! Probably should not be selling those hah maybe older hens too? I know my older girls shells are much thinner.

I think I should've just stuck with my own eggs. I spent only $8 so I'm not like oh my gosh I just spent $50 on eggs that are weird.

I was worried about adding my flocks offspring because my roosters will mate with anything (all roosters will). I was worried about line breeding.

Oh and check out my muscovy Coco... She learned how to fly 9 feet up at only 9 weeks. We were quite shocked to see that. View attachment 1949664

That seems like kind of a lot for only a half dozen? But I don’t know anything about hatching eggs so maybe not.

And I’m sure it would have been okay but idk. Hope these ones hatch though. :fl

And awww what a cutie!!

I didn't say anything because I was trying to comprehend in my head what went on when I bought the eggs. It took my over 6 hours to process. Probably glad I got so little because I'm not sure what's going to pop out. Could be aliens :lau

They’re probably the same type of people that try to sell roosters for ridiculous amounts and also say they’re not for meat even though they’re just a generic type rooster that everyone has and can barely give away for free :lau

My chickens are pets and I would never eat them so I totally get the thinking of them as pets thing BUT I also know that not everybody feels the same way that I do and I am fine with that so I would never try to control what somebody did with something I sold them. It’s not mine anymore after I sell it and frankly, I don’t mind if someone wants to use it for meat or whatever else as long as they don’t torture it or try to use it for rooster fighting or anything.

Not sure. I don't know how much a dozen goes for, they're not even purebred eggs. I definitely am picky about eggs. I'll tell you one thing, if you get eggs from me you're getting quality even if they're barnyard mixes.

I have a layer flock that are pets. They're never going to be used for meat. They were trying to sell me a Brahma rooster, but I have my JG that are gorgeous! Plus they make good babies

Kelsey i rotate where the eggs are each time i candle which is only three times throughout incubation but i know some people swear by it as it evens out the growth rate over all the eggs.

Im calling my hatch finally. The quail all hatched today so i guess i was too late setting them. 5 out of 5 of the sex links 3 boys 2 girls. No wyandottes. One hona. 2 out of 5 cots and 5 out of 6 buttons. Chickens are tryn to molt so i wasnt expecting great numbers from them but theyre still laying so ima keep tryn. Also expected poor from the cots, those are the last eggs before i did the big shake up. Proccessed 7 and moved em all around so in another month ill be able to tryn get better numbers.

Yeah, I can’t imagine anyone selling anything that wasn’t good quality! But I guess it happens.

I don’t even want to sell small eggs from my flock.

Yeah that’s how my current flock is!! Just layers and pets.

And yeah why get another roo when yours is awesome? They probably just want to get rid of him! Lol but plus it could also bring disease in!

I'm so picky about what I look for in eggs and chickens that is why I buy from the other farm who orders from hatcheries. They know how picky I am and only give me the best. That's how I got the flock that I have right now.

Oh wow that’s awesome!! Haha

I just ordered both of my batches from a hatchery :lau

Forgot the pics
