Hamburg thread!

Note: Hamburgs were known as "daily layers;" what this has meant, in the past week, is that my three young ladies have given me eighteen eggs. They give themselves their own Sabbath, I guess? Eighteen eggs is a lot for three non-breakfast-eating people to use, but luckily we've been able to distribute them among the general populace.

Not that I would know, but could you unpack "WEB?" It's not an abbreviation I've encountered before.

You must have some great hens!

They are everything I could wish, so far. Terribly young, and not tested by hatching, yet (I found a cockeral, but he's only nine weeks old, so it will be a while until I can see what breeding unveils).

I was perusing craigslist last night in search of other things, and found that there is an opportunity for someone in range to get a Hamburg flock:

Rooster (nice looking, unknown other qualities, in Everett):

Three pullets from the same person in Graham I got my well-socialized young beauties from:

If I was crazier and/or had not run myself into the ground making two runs in two weeks, and was not additionally in the process of housing a new sheep, I'd snap these up.

Hi, I just wanted to express my appreciation for the Hamburgs. I had ordered the reliablly easy going dualpurpose girls and got my SSH as a freebie. Was a bit concerned about his type but I have come to love him for his flightiness. He goes where he wants, over fencing and never to be caught by us! LOL He's an admirable fellow and increased my appreciation for more wildype chickens.

I like him well enough to breed him to some dual purpose hens, for survivability and white eggs. Will crosses on brown egg layers produce white eggs with a little selection??

I've enjoyed reading this thread! Fits Whitey to a tee.

I recently purchased some Silver Spangled Hamburgs. I saw that there is a North American Hamburg club, but it appears that the web page has not been updated since 2007. Does anyone know if this club still exists?

I have a quad of Silver Pencilled Hamburgs and I love them! Yes, mine came from a hatchery here in Canada but they are so friendly. I go in the coop and if I bend over to fill the feeder I have at least one of them on my back, if I'm standing they try to fly up my legs. Unfortunately, my quad used to be 6 but something (assuming a bird of prey) got one and the other died of shock.

I'll get some photos up of them, they are only 2 months old though.
