Hamburg thread!

Thanks flower I've visited this site, but I have not found if a chick could have pink legs and turn dark later. This chick his not suposed to be mixed with another breed.
Pink legs will not turn dark, at that age the leg color you have is the leg color you have. I would be suspicious that it is a mix as well, I bred Hamburgs for a few years in the mid 90's and never saw anything remotely close to pink legs.

There is a farm in WI owned by a man named Dan Powell who raises Hamburgs and he may be able to answer your questions. Also have you done a google search for Hamburg breeders in you area or anywhere. I mean there is a lot of different resources out there. I only have one Hamburg and she is a golden spangled and has slate colored legs. Some day i would love to add the silver splangled Hamburg to my flock because they are so attractive, are very hardy and good foragers and a layers of very nice medium size eggs. I like my hen but the silvers are much more attractive.

And to add to your query, it has been my experience that chickens legs feet and skin color remain constant from birth. In other words I do not think that your bird will have different colored skin, legs, feet as an adult. But that is just my opinion.

I would say its a mix...def. Should have gray legs. As BGmatt said..the leg would have turnd gray already if they where going to.

I would suggest that anyone with questions regarding Hamburgs get in touch with one of the members of the breed club.
They are the best source for information on the breed. As a side note. The reference to Dan Powell is not correct. I don't believe that he resides in the U.S. any longer, and I doubt that he references e-mail to his old web site.
