Hamburg thread!

Pics
I just got an email back from a hamburg breeder.....

He was saying that the hamburg roosters can be super vicious towards each other.

I have only ever had roosters that grew up together, never introduced one, so maybe all roosters are horrid if they don't grow up together?

Do you'll have any input on if Hamburg males are much worse than other breeds?

I think McMurray sent me a Silver Hamburg as my mystery chick. What do you think? He (right?) has the prettiest blue legs and is about five weeks old.

The brown chick is a Brown Leghorn pullet.

Thats a silver spangled little rooster!
Alaskan, I think most roosters will attack any other rooster that has not been raised in the flock. My wyandotte roo will try to attack my Hamburg roo through the fencing. Tye hamburg roo never starts the fight

Thank you for confirming....

That's what I thought. Large type, I assume because he is not much smaller than the other large breed chicks. Unless my husband grows attached to him (because he is a cutie!), I'll probably give him away.

He seems to be unafraid to come right up to us and was the first chick who didn't mind being picked up.

Tell me a bit about Hamburgs please...

I've read they are "flighty" and can go up in the trees but do they go home to their coop at night?

We had La Fleche similar to this which we loved but refused to go home to the coop even though they laid eggs inside the nest boxes.

Hamburgs are considered flighty birds...but I know people who have very friendly Hamburgs. As for not roosting in the coop, iv never had that problem with my Hamburgs.
