I made a hand balm that has turned from smooth to granular. What happened? I think I read somewhere that I need to reheat it, does that sound right? If so, for how long? It has shea butter, cocoa butter and jojoba oil in it. Thanks for your help. I getting ready to make soap after reading this forum. I can't wait.

It was most likely the shea butter, which is notorious for turning grainy.

Is this a balm or lotion? What I mean is have you used water in you recipe?

No water. The recipe was 1 cup cocoa butter, 1 cup shea butter, 1/2 cup Jojoba oil, 1/4 cup Beeswax. Is there anything I can do about it now? It still works, just takes a while to get the grainy part rubbed in.

You can try Slowly heating it until melted completly and then hold the heat for 20 minutes to make sure the crystals are fully dissolved and then letting it slowly cool. Other than that I'm not sure.
