How is her temperament? Could you check into therapy animals as a job for her? I worked at a nursing home with a chicken pet, another nursing home with a rat pet, and another with a bunny pet. At the super modern hospital where I currently work, we have more than 6 dogs on staff. The therapy animals' handlers usually get some training, and some were actually reimbursed for their therapeutic time under Medicare part C.

Local hospice people might have suggestions about where to get started, if you think she'd be interested.
