Hands on hatching and help

Can I still hatch eggs with a still air without buying the fan?
I run 3 still air bators. It is more work yes. I also hand turn.
But I am 100% hands on. I don't lock down. I count down.
I have excellent hatch rates from aux meters though.
I don't trust factor meters or believe in gradual tilt. I bump turn as what a broody hen would do.
To each there own.

I do, when I do staggered sets.

x2 agreed!

Me too.

You're very welcome!

Yup, just monitor the temps at the top of the eggs. It should be 101-102F.

Happy Birthday to your daddy too!

My little chick that I was worried about is slowly making progress on it's shell. Stuck it's beak right through where I made the hole bigger and is chipping away at the edges. I think it'll be fine despite having piped on the wrong end of the egg. Thanks everyone!

:clap

What's this float test for an egg I'm not sure will hatch? Some people have mentioned 'floating.' Do I sink it in water or something? All my other eggs have hatched, but one (not even a pip), and I candled it, and I see a fully formed chick, but it's not moving.

Any reason all other chicks would be fine and hatch without problems but one dies at this point?

I don't float test. Open it. Put a small hole in the air cell and see what's going on.

Lots of reasons. Maybe that one was malpositioned and it couldn't hatch. Maybe it hit a vein when it tried to internally pip. Maybe its internal organs didn't form right, etc etc.

Go ahead and open it up. If it's alive you will be able to see it moving under the membrane.
