This is a very tough one. The temps need to stay in the 97 to 100F range for the chicks and humidity should be close to 70%.Hi
I was wondering if somone could help me.
My broody died while on day 20.
I quickly gathered her eggs at 9am and placed it in a cardboard box with straw and a heat lamp. (A normal lamp which emits heat)
I dont have a themometer but found something which measures tempreture.
Day 21 i swear i heard a peep.
After finding mites in the straw. This is on day 22. I moved the eggs to another box with a towel underneath.
I also use wet paper towels and dampen the towel under the eggs.
I also heard a peep on day 22 loud as l day.
Today day 24 i read that i could turn the eggs over if they have not pipped yet and i didnt really want to assist.
I turned an egg over at 10am in the morning and it has a small crack in the shell not the membrane. A small pip.
There has been no movement so far, no peeps either. I wonder if its too hot or not enough humidity or whats going on!?
I read about doing a safety hole in the air side of the egg however i am unsure.
I have not candled the eggs either.
I might try to candle all the eggs tonight.
Any clues what to do?
I saw the pip today on one egg and im wondering shall i wait a day to see if it comes out by itself?

Here's the story and help so far:I was wondering if somone could help me.
I’ve see chicks pop out within 8 hours of cracking some of the weaker ones take longer. But my guess is your moisture is way off and the inner liner is sticking to them causing them to be confined and basically strangling them. I would assist. If u need help I can walk u through the process.I would mist them. They may not be getting enough moisture to get out of the shell and drying up. Not to much you could drown them. If no sound they probably have already died.
