Hands on hatching and help

The inner membrane?? In my experience, the inner only turns white when it dries out. The outer membrane, yes, should be white.
The outer membrane should dry out first.

Now that I think about it, if the inner membrane is visible, the hole is very large and oil should but put on the membrane right away

So anyone recommend if and how to clean these eggs before setting?
Some have been wiped/washed, some have not.
Or should I just refuse to hatch them?
They are for a friend who said they were a 'bit dirty'.
Don't want to contaminate my brand new Incuview.
TIA!

They should be fine as is :) I have a lot of eggs coming out more muddy than that thanks to all the snow melting off. I just pop them straight into the incubator and they do well with no issues.

Or you could gently wipe them off with a damp cloth, I've done that too and it doesn't hurt anything.

I sometimes wash dirty eggs . I either use Mannapro egg wash or wipes or clean water and a damp cloth . There are a lot of varied opinions as to wash or not to wash . I have added hydrogen peroxide to the wash water and even a little bleach . I can't say it helped or hurt hatch rates are always about the same . I use a one part beach to three parts water to sterilize my incubators every once in awhile . And there is nothing better than hydrogen peroxide for taking the stink out of a incubator . Use it straight and rinse with clean water . GQF used to carry a egg sanitizer. I wasn't able to find it in their catalog . Warm humid dark areas are prefect breeding grounds for fungus . It's important to give incubators a good cleaning after you've set shipped eggs or even slightly dirty eggs. JMO .

So still the wide gamut of both ends of the spectrum.
I guess I should have known better :D not sure what I'll do.

Trust your own gut :D

Or wash half, and leave half dirty, see which do better?

I personally don't wash, but will damp wipe any excessively soiled ones. Plain ole water. Lol

Whatever you want If I were setting my own eggs, with eggs from another I would wash them . But either way I would set the eggs . Can't tell you how many times I have set washed eggs . You can clean an incubator no problem .
