Thank-you everyone for your help. My temp was fine, but I messed up on the humidity . It was way too high. I have 2 healthy ducklings though, and am glad I didn't lose the entire batch! Thanks again x

Congrats!

View attachment 1405818 I just happened across this thread and was so happy to see that I’m not alone in assisted hatch if needed zone. I’ve found that timing is the key element to soon and you’ll know! To late, you’ll also know. And just in time, I’ve had many healthy, happy normal chicks that I’ve helped. This is Dolly who pipped and couldn’t zipView attachment 1405819 . She is 4 months old now and such a love!
Oh yes! Love my Dolly!Fitting name, she is a doll!![]()
Such a relief to see, from several posts similar to this, that an un-absorbed yolk is fairly common, and not a death sentence. Both my surviving babies had this problem, and, thanks to the posts on this site, I was able to rescue them. They are 3 days old now, and doing well!View attachment 1407268 View attachment 1407269 Last night, my last egg for the year and most likely for a few years. Started zipping up, rather then across. So! Had to help. This baby is one of my bearded d’uccle and silkie seramas. Her little yoke sack was stuck to her nose! (Beak). So after applying antibiotic ointment to her belly into a cup she went to finish up her little bit of yoke (after I gently removed the part from her beak) and today she’s all dry and we finished cleaning some of the dry membrane from her wing. And she’s rocking and rolling!
24 hours for internal pip. External can be up to 48 before zipping.
With these being part Call, the fear is that their beak and neck will be too short to reach the shell to pip. If you don't see an external pip within 24 hours of internal pip, I'd be doing a safety hole.
A lot of Call breeders have to help the ducklings hatch, even under broodies.
Thanks. I had a staggered hatch. 3 that were due hatched great with no help needed. I had 4 left due a week later. My friend put them under her broody. Unfortunately the first one got stuck. She is going to keep checking on the others. I told her the 24 to 48 hour guideline. Hopefully the last 3 will get out ok. Here are our 3.
