Thank you! I will keep an eye on them. When should I start to worry? Nothing has happened in about 5 hours but it is peeping

The cheap ones are off most of the time . Wet bulb I guess is the most accurate but a pain to use I think . I'm so sold on the Hygroset II humidor hygrometer won't even try another brand . They have the digital thermometer but its wrong by a degree or two most of the time .I've heard the hygrometers for the reptiles are awesome too and pretty cheap.
Lol
No. I only use videos of chicks cheeping.
It can take a good 24 hours for some to transition from one step to the other.Thank you! I will keep an eye on them. When should I start to worry? Nothing has happened in about 5 hours but it is peeping
Neighbors who let their dogs roam suck, I'm sorry. Have you contacted the owner? I would, and warn them the next time it shows up it'll be shot (even if you don't intend to follow through, it will make them think twice). I had a horrible neighbor who kept letting their lab/shepherd mix attack and kill my birds.
I only mention contacting the owner because it probably wasn't a stray if it just killed your rooster. Strays and predators kill to eat and it would have eaten him. Pets kill for fun and leave the body.
There are probably dog laws in your area too - I would call and alert the dog warden so if it is a stray they will come and pick it up, and if it's not they may be able to figure out who the owner is provided the dog is registered and give them a warning.
We had to have our 14 year old dog put to sleep yesterday morning. I miss him and I worry without his presence we're going to start seeing a lot more of my other neighbor's annoying dogs. They already come onto half of our property and bark at us. They do run away when challenged though, at least, and haven't bothered my birds yet.
I know!! When that momma hen attacked my splash looking silkie- my favorite, I was heartbroken. First time I cried over a chicken. Ok, I should say I blatted like a baby.
I totally agree with everything Pyxis said. I run about 30% for the first17 days.
If you're not in and out of the bator 62% is doable. If you find you do have to open for assisting or such, I would add a wet sponge or cloth and try to get up around 70%
Hi everyone My names Karen and I just had my first hatch of chicks! Out of 7 I have 5 live and 2 died.Im not sure y one died for it was 24hrs old and seemed to be doing ok was it because she/he was an assist hatch? She was stuck in the egg for over 24hrs before I started helping and when the hatch was over yolk was absorbed and veins. The other baby was tiny and all matted up and again yolk and veins absorbed. The other 5 are doing good.
Hi Karen! Congrats on your hatchers. There are often times we don't find the answers we are looking for. It could have had inernal problems that you can't see. Were these hatchers on time or were they late hatchers? Assisting can result in high success, but why the chick needed assisting in the first place can play a big factor in it's chances of survival after. I've done quite a few assist over the two years that I have been hatching and have only ever lost one. All the rest went on to be HEALTHY chickens. Assisting a chick that is overdue due to delay in development (caused by low temps) and needs assisting because of a weakend state has a less chance of survival than a chick that needs assisting, that is on time and positioned wrong or has dried out membranes hindering it's progress. I help no matter what the circumstances because in my world you never know until you try, but many won't assist because of their personal philosophies or bad experiences.Hi everyone My names Karen and I just had my first hatch of chicks!
