Best and cheapest and most accurate thermometer is for fish aquariums not the tape the floater . Tropical fish are affected by slight temperature changes so tank thermometers are very accurate . One of the best for checking other thermometers . Here Wal-Mart 3 dollars the glass tube with weights in the bottom .

My never say the same temp. I always try to keep them both at a happy medium. Also it's best to wait till day 7 to candle. After that I candle quickly without removing the eggs when I have to add water. :)
I'm so sorry to hear about your chick. I have no clue what it could be but I've dealt with a few leg issues now. You should try to make a splint to keep its leg straight. Give it a week and see of it has any improvement. I had one I did that with and it's doing good now. Has a limp but otherwise a happy chick. Can't hurt to try. If it doesn't work mypetchicken let's you order small orders of chicks amd you can choose a date. Some breeds ship faster so it's good to look at different ones or craigslist.com may have some. :)

I think I will try the splint. The chick is still not putting any weight at all on the leg but did manage to get up a few times to eat and drink today, so I guess that's better then it not!

Hey that's great news. It's probably just injured it's leg and the splint will help it heal. :) I saw this really neat contraption for hurt legs when they can walk. You take a small box and cover it with soft stretchy fabric. Cut two holes in the top of the fabric for the chicks legs so they dangle. Then in the front you cut small holes you can fit food and water dishes in. That way they can reach it from their spot. I made one for mine and it worked pretty well. I'll see if I can find the pic again. :)

Ok here is the site that was so helpful for me when we had the worst leg injury.

Here is the chick chair we used. This isn't ours but an image from google. We did the same thing though.
