Reminds me of that one little quail chick I hatched! So adorable. :fl for more babies tonight!

How are yours doing??

2 more are out, a few more pips, and I found a hatched shell under the broody and can hear it, but haven't seen it yet.

I'm thinking the 2nd hatcher is a bantam cochin though. She sent me 2 bonus cochin eggs, in addition to the Serama eggs, but only one developed. It has pipped, but not hatched yet. This one was clearly marked Serama, but I can see some leg feathering, so if it were to be a cochin, having 2 instead of 1 would be great..., if the other one does hatch. It was also the largest egg, so I'll have to ask MPC if it's possible that they mismarked it.

Honestly, this is just me but I usually go to like 36 hours before starting an assist with a pipper. That's just me! Good luck to the little guy or girl!
I think you are right about the splash...but I don't do splash so you tell me...
They're still a little damp from the bator but I snapped some pics while moving them. These are the 2 light ones...

Last egg is hatched. The little guy was turning in the Egg but not making contact with the shell. I basically just peeled all the shell off the top of the egg and he pushed through the membrane. He's got a huge vault and I think he just got a little mixed up. I'm glad I helped him now. Hatch is over!!! 16/18 chicks out! I bought a dozen hoping to get maybe 6 if I was lucky! Lol.

Congrats! How did they turn out?

You know my oldest son said "it looks like some blues". I'm really bad at telling the difference between black & blue as chicks. I was told that blues actually look more black at hatch and the blacks have the white fluffy tips and bottoms at hatch. Is that accurate?
A lot of people prefer to use a still air hatcher for hatch time. Temps need to be less consistent but humidity needs to be high. I think you'd probably have a hard time keeping humidity up at hatch with a heat lamp. Can you put a divider in your incubator? Are these eggs your hatching shipped or local?

Just saw this, sorry...

No, not all blacks will have the white wing tips and bottoms... plus some blues have that as well... that all depends on if they are Extended black based or Birchen based... no correlation between black and blue...

It's super hard to tell *for sure* which are blacks and which are dark blues at hatch... best to wait til they start feathering in...
