Hands on hatching and help

I just used a tea candle. . Use a toothpick to cover crack.
Do I warm the wax a little bit and brush it on? Or do I carefully rub the wax on while it's cold? I'm sorry this is my first hatch ever and I'm not sure what to do. Of course it's going to give me some small challenges to overcome and learn from. I wouldn't be so concerned if the little one wasn't moving so much inside. I would like to give it a chance. So using super glue is probably a bad idea?[/quote]

This guy pipped last night and is active right now but not making much progress. I know its much too soon for any concern or help.

But wondering, is that membrane looking too dry? Should I be concerned about that.

Membrane looks great! Which came first, the big hole or the lower pip out on the tip?

It's had no movement and I've played some video...it's been like 2 hours since we heard him cheep. And I don't see breathing. :(

Me, personally, I'd pull it and check.

x2, but another option is knocking on the incubator and shining the light, look for breathing through the hole.

I wouldn't use anything like super glue. Just the smell of that stuff is enough to affect respiratory, no telling what the chemicals can do, especially in a heated environment.

I pulled it and took some shell off. He didn't move and his beak was on the other side of the pip and down in some goo. So I suppose he turned around and then drowned himself. He'd move while I took the shell off correct??

Edit to add:
The one that's alive is rocking and rolling. I'll give it until later tonight to help.

I candled the other three...no movement. I think they died too. They're in just in case. :(

I'll have an orphan chick!!!! :(

Yeah, definitely stick to wax, tape, or I've heard Liquid Skin works well too.

I tried the liquid skin, but it stunk so bad, I pulled the egg after 2 days in the bator!

Someone on another thread successfully used athletic tape, the paper-ish-like-cloth kind.

Oh no!! So sorry.

I assisted one time, and left part of the membrane, and the chick spun down below the membrane and died. So don't feel like it was your fault. These things happen. Keep trying!

Not sure if this is posting in the right place, but if you have a crack. I used a tea candle, let it burn a minute or 2. use a toothpick to dip in and apply to egg right away.just use enough to seal crack. You can also use a birthday candle, let it drip on the egg, use toothpick to spread around. I have had my grand kids around a lot. this method does work. Hopefully will not have to use it this year!

I've heard of that method too. Glad to hear it worked for you!
