Hands on hatching and help

Thank you. I think that I'll pick up a couple tea lights after work and try it. I'll let you know what happens. Thank you for all the advice and guidance. I really appreciate it!

I am truly sorry to hear about the little ones that were lost. It makes me sad and nervous that I may experience the same loses when mine start to pip this weekend.

I pulled it and took some shell off. He didn't move and his beak was on the other side of the pip and down in some goo. So I suppose he turned around and then drowned himself. He'd move while I took the shell off correct??

 Edit to add:
The one that's alive is rocking and rolling. I'll give it until later tonight to help.

I candled the other three...no movement. I think they died too. They're in just in case. :(

I'll have an orphan chick!!!! :(

Sorry to hear that! :hugs

Not sure if this is posting in the right place, but if you have a crack. I used a tea candle, let it burn a minute or 2. use a toothpick to dip in and apply to egg right away.just use enough to seal crack. You can also use a birthday candle, let it drip on the egg, use toothpick to spread around. I have had my grand kids around a lot. this method does work. Hopefully will not have to use it this year!

:thumbsup

I have 6 mostly fluffed chicks, 2 just hatched a while ago, still in the bator, one to go.
Nice feathered feet, great toe separation, most have nice dark skin, a couple have decent, but not overly large vaults. A couple have pink leakage, they are Mona Lisa's babies most likely, the one in my avatar. She's my most heavily marked paint, but she has the pink leakage. I was hoping to get some from her with the heavy markings, but w/o the lighter skin. Eventually she'll be pulled from my breeding. She's also one of the constant broodies of the group. I have pics of the first 6, but I have to change to desk top to upload them. The two hatched out in the bator, one looks a silver white, the other another paint.

Aww, they are so cute!! NO, Diane...NO!! Did I misunderstand or do you think some of these might be Blooie's chicks?

Had to cancel our chick order. Ken ruptured the tendon in his shoulder so he's got surgery coming up. I can't take on more and help him like I need to, and since I won't dump Kendra, can't do anything about my heart, and won't have assistance to take care of the chickens I have now, something had to go. Is it awful that I'm not really disappointed? Sometimes you just know in your heart that it's not a good time, and I'd told him that before he went ahead and ordered them. If I ever get more chicks or hatching eggs, I want to enjoy them a little bit, not begrudge the time it takes to get them brooded successfully and integrated before we start traveling this summer. Doc is anticipating a 10 -15 week recovery time for Ken.

I'm glad you guys had the answers on the wax. First of all, I just mentioned it but didn't know exactly how to go about doing it, and secondly - well, I'm usually more focused on getting them OUT than keeping them in!

Lol. Well, Blooie is the only one that I have seen get the "job" done...lol Ouch on Ken! And wow, 10-15 weeks. I totally get what you are saying. I hope Ken has a speedy recovery.

The others were really bad. I have learned the kids need to sit when we move from the incubator to the hatchery. Felt so bad for them. Good luck.
