Hands on hatching and help

:weee :celebrate :yesss:

ETA - are you planning to proceed with assist, or are you going to try to let it hatch on its own first?

I'm not taking chances with this guy. They are Ravyn's eggs and all had detached air cells with only 2 making it past day 14. So I am planning on making a tiny safety hole tonight and then tomorrow I will ask Ravyn what to do next and follow her advice! Lol. I want to get them out alive no matter what it takes....hey!!!...you were supposed to be hatching calls with me this spring!! ;)

I just hope the second and only other egg makes a internal pip too. I don't want a lone duckling. I don't have more due for another 18 days!

8 silkies out, 4 to go. (Pretty sure nothing is going to happen with the last two.)

Silkie #6 looks to have a little leg problem. Slightly spraddled maybe. Keeps ending up on his back. I've attempted to band it, (not an easy job alone and with a silkie), he was still flopping so I set him in a plastic bb food cup.

Malepo nn is still hanging in there. Not sure which way that is going to go.

Sometimes silkies have trouble getting on their feet because of their fat bottoms and short legs. I hope it's just that. :fl (I'm going to harass you for pics for the next few years, lol).

Are you kidding, you're going to be sick of me sending pics!!! lol His one leg was a just a little splayed I think. I braced them and he's staying in the bator tonight cause it has the skid proof liner. He's actually staying upright and balancing a little better. Tomorrow I'll check it and see if there's progress w/o it.

9 silkies out now, 3 left with pips, one of the three has actually made the pip bigger than a pin hole. Hoping those three are out tomorrow. One of the two that didn't do anything quit, so I eggtopsied it. It was beautiful! black with little white wingtips, vaulted head. The membrane shrinkwrapped him before he could make an internal pip. It was the smallest out of all the eggs I believe. Yolk was almost all absorbed. One thing I noted though that really surprised me. Even though he had absorbed all most all of the yolk, his belly was pretty much flat. Not round and full like they usually are right after yolk absorption.

The malpo green egger chick is still hanging in there. He's going to stay in the incubator tonight with little "Gimpy". I noticed his "navel" is off centered. Don't know how he's going to fare, but he's had a fighting chance and he's done good so far. If he makes it I'm calling him "Rocky".

I'm pleased with the hatch. If the last three hatch, (and I have every expectation they will) that will be 12/14 that made it to lockdown for an 86% lockdown rate and an overall 67% shipped rate on the silkies alone. The Spitz were 7/8 that made it to lockdown for 88% and overall 78%. With the greens being 75%. (3/4) Not my best ever numbers, but I am completely satisfied. Especially with my error of mixing other eggs with the silkies.

Ravyn and WV told me ducks like to take their sweet sweet time before hatching either on the due date or a day after. I would be extremely careful about assisting. Good luck with it!!!! Tomorrow is day 14 on those Silkie eggs and I have only lost one so far!!!! I am super excited!

She's got me on Call, lol...

Ruby is doing great... :)

Is anyone having problems with this site or is it just me??  Last night I tried to respond to things and kept getting an error message???

It's an issue with their server, I believe... yeah, last night was exceptionally bad... BYC had one of those cases of pasty butt that just didn't want to clear up... :gig

Good plan!
And I really wanted Calls, but know that I could never move them to camp, and they are too loud for my house

And I want in on the silkie pic sharing!! :D

Outstanding!! So the 2 that you thought weren't going to make it have pipped too? Anxious for next update.
