Unless it's externally pipped, and your air is like the desert they won't shrinkwrap unless you leave the bator open for a looong time...

Why do you think the one was shrink wrapped then? when should they be externally pipped by? Thanks for answering all my questions!

If there is a Tractor Supply or Rural King, they carry it... a lot of co-ops do too... I can't think of anywhere else though... I hope you find it, I've used it a few times for wry neck and within a day or 2 you couldn't tell which one it was...

ETA: if you can't find it, infant vitamin drops called PolyViSol w/out Iron works too...

I actually read that PolyViSol worked. I will try to find some.

Are you sure it was shrinkwrapped? The membrane looks wrinkly normally... if it was shrinkwrapped the membrane would be fully separated from the shell below the air cell space...

I actually read that PolyViSol worked.  I will try to find some.

It does work, but it is nastier than Nutridrench and harder to get them to swallow... hope you find it and it fixes that little one up!

I just noticed how dark my little blue runner duck is. So I pulled him outta the brooder and upon closer examination found that he is not blue at all. He is black. . After looking at baby number 4 that just hatched I am certain he is gonna be black too. Nothing against black runners, we just already have a pair of those and were really looking forward to the gorgeous blue runners that we had ordered. **Sigh** What else could go wrong with our hatches this year?

I don't know much about duck coloring (yet). Is it like silkies, where at hatch the blues look black and the blacks look blue?

Amylynn no offense taken trust me. I don't know anything about hatching our own eggs except for what we read about. Didn't read anything about this stuff. Yes 3 of them looked like the first pics you posted and 2 like the last one that had too much moisture. Ruby sorry i didn't get any pics it was late when i opened them up and just didn't think about it. Amylynn2374 posted some pics that look like what mine did after opening them up

That's ok! I used to always forget to take pics too. Now that we started this thread I'm trying to take lots of pics at hatch time and after when I open the remaining eggs. It just really helps to see what's going on. sounds like you're on the right track for figuring it out. I trace my air cells each week to make sure they look like this:

I tryed to candle eggs from my phone flash light today. We called all chicken eggs one exploded. Duck eggs look like there's nothing moving. They have 4 more days from when I took them based on. Before the ones outside hatch a new hatch on first.but it doesn't look promising we got none. Oh well maybe 1st will be a better litter.

They are mixed. Khaki/mallard and my others are call eggs. My humidity before was reading around 45-50% and when I added the sponges it never read higher than 60% which I find hard to believe

Do you have a separate hygrometer that you can calibrate in there?

Hmmm, I know they didn't have that at murdochs. I am going to greeley tomorrow so I will check a couple places up there to see if I can find some.

Also, I found some avian liquid vitamin drops at Petco (they are similar to nutridrench). Just FYI, in case you had one of those stores close.

We had one blue runner that hatched out of our first batch of 20 from Stromberg's (in fact it was the only one that hatched out of the 20). It was dark but once it dried it was definitely a dark, slate color. These 2 definitely are all black. The blue one we hatched didn't have any yellow feathers on it's chest but both of these 2 do and the pair of black runners we got from the feed store had the same yellow on their chests. They are still sweet little babies so I guess we will love them anyways.

If I hold that little baby with the flopping neck he will stop, but I have to hold his head forward til he calms down and then he will just look at me and peep quietly. He's such a sweet little baby. I hope we can help him and he pulls through.

There is a PetCo in greeley so I will check there tomorrow. Good to know about other options for medicines. Thanks Ruby and Ravyn!

No I don't have a separate hydrometer in there. Just the one that came with my incubator. I looked for one two three different places but couldn't find one

Hmmm... I really dunno... best places to get hygrometers/thermometers is Amazon or eBay... I don't have links to the good ones, am on my phone... should get a couple extras of both... what kind of bator is it?

I've got sav-o-chick in their drinking water and I have been forcing it to drink that. Murdoch's gave me some tetracycline hydrochloride stuff that they swore would fix the problem. I'm pretty sure that is some type of anti-biotic and I'm not sure it is what I need but I'm giving it some of that too. Is that enough or should I be putting a concentrated batch of sav-o-chick down it's throat with a dropper?

I really would recommend this Natural Vitality, Organic Life Vitamins. I had a quail chick hatch with wry neck and I gave it this stuff and in 2 days it could eat by itself. If the symptoms of wry neck start coming back a bit (like the duckling starts spinning or stumbling around) then you just need to keep the vitamins up. I mixed the vitamins with yogurt/feed/water mixture or just water most of the time.
