Hands on hatching and help

Opening the incubator to turn the eggs several times a day will not hurt anything as long as you do it then put the top back on-----not leave it off for a hour. You stop turning chicken eggs on day 18---so you will not be having to turn them the last 3 days---till hatch.

The automatic turner must not be working---most all automatic turners will tilt the eggs back and forth several times a day----you check it----go back in a hour or two and it should be in a different position---if not---its not working---feel the motor---is it Hot----real hot?? Probably stuck/froze up. Good Luck

Ok thanks. This one slides and rolls the eggs. But it looks to be in the same position. I'm going to start to hand turn them just to be safe..

actually looking in removed chicks when had to add water real quick, having better luck stopped turning on day 15 and upped humidity at lock down to 75-80 range

Ok so I have all my eggs in the 2 incubators. One is an auto turner and the other is manual. Question number 1.. there is no door. I have to take the lid all the way off to turn eggs. Every time temp and humidity go down. Is this going to effect my hatch? 2nd question.. how do I know the turner is working in the auto. I haven't seen it move yet and I'm starting to freak out. If they have been in there for a day without turning is it a lost cause now?

No, opening to turn doesn't harm the eggs. It takes a lot longer for the egg temp to drop than for the air temp to drop. Same thing with candling. As a matter of fact some of the newer more pricey bators have a cool down period to mimick the fact that the hens do get off the eggs while brooding. I would put an x on one side and see if the mark moves between 1-2 hours. If not, then you know it's not working.

Well lol, all three cemani eggs have hatched and all three are crosses. I knew that was a definite possibility because I set them within three weeks of when the girls had been free ranging with my layer flock, but I had hoped for at least one pure one. Thought I got one too but then realized it had a rose comb :th It inherited that from Pretty Boy, my half cemani rooster that leads my layer flock:

700

So that baby is at least 3/4 cemani. There's one more that I think is Pretty Boy's too. Gonna have to see how they feather out. Might have to keep them if they're pullets.

Also have two leghorns out! One Isabelle, one split to Isabelle. Have a few other pipped but none of the other eggs are doing anything yet.

Yeah I did the x and O marks already. I waited about 3 hours and turned them. The turner hadn't done it yet.. :(

Yea I was talking about the turner being plugged in----for sure it sounds though it s not working! Good Luck
lol sorry. The directions didn't give any separate instructions on plugging the turner in. It's a cheaper model. I think it's supposed to just work once the whole thing is on. I tried looking it up but can't find much on it in english. Thanks amazon lol...
