Hands on hatching and help

I came home to surprises - my keets aren't all pearl  They should technically have been since their father was - unless their father is split to something. And he must be because I have a lavender, I think, and something else. Haven't really been in the incubator yet to check all the colors but that is a surprise for sure.

I was only planning on keeping two of these - so far there's four that I want :th

Edit:

Surprise number two of the evening - went to lock down my eggs due Saturday and one was hatched! Really cool looking chick, I believe half CCL half AC and if so it's a pullet. I think my broody will be getting that baby as well. Someone stop me from keeping all these birds!

the two that pipped in the wrong spot are alive and i think well! i had to peel the shell away for both, but both were able to push their way out. both came out with huge, shiny navels. one looked very very slightly still open, but it appears to be closing up now. it took 24 hours for the first one, who pipped correctly and by itself, to hatch. 25 hours for the second, and about 30 for this one. patience patience! but it worked!!

Famous last words... "I was only planning..."

sweet things :)

i think that from this hatch and the last, among the many other things i have learned, i am going to mark the deepest part of the air cell as the top and stop turning my eggs on day 17. i now know that i feel comfortable continuing to candle as long as there is no external pip as well, and both of those things make me feel better about the next go around, which won't be for a very long time!

Internet was down last night but trucks were outside working on the lines. Thankfully they didn't interupt the power! I was able to get on for a little but couldn't quite anyone. Frustrating!

I do this on every hatch! I've had luck with sticking the babies I keep with broodies (I try to keep it to a chick chick max per hatch) but I've got two sitting in here the an "auntie" wouldn't allow to join the mama and chicks. So the chick hatched without raising humidity and how early? That must have been a big surprise!!

Yup that's pretty much what I do. C'mon, set more eggs!! ;)
We are still early on. About a week. I just don't want an egg explosion mess. I'm afraid if I can't tell it could infect all my others. :(
I wanted to tell you last night that early red rings are very common in shipped eggs. The embryo has started but can't attach because the chalaza has been damaged in shipping. I've left them in for awhile, I've never had one explode...ever. Just keep your nose up.

I read earlier that if you plan on removing the chicks before they have all hatched that it was better to have higher humidity, like around 75 percent. Would you agree with this or do you think it's to high?

I have my incubator at 65% humidity. I have 4 chicks pipped and singing. Today is hatching day. Can't wait till I can see the cuties!

I'm happy to hear explosions aren't that common. I candled them last night before bed. Out of the 7 Ameracaunas I saw 5 black dots moving so 5 out of 7 is not bad. I'm waiting on the other 2 just in case they are late bloomers but I don't think they are. Out of the 9 mix saw 6 baby's for sure the other 3 are still so dark I can't even see light penetrating the shells. Fingers crossed..
