Are they true Ameraucanas?
Yes they are supposed to be. I bought them from a breeder... thats why I will be so bummed if they don't hatch..![]()
These look like a professional took them lol. The chicks are adorable too. So fluffy lol
I have a true americauna. Her names Dorothy. Been trying to find her a pure mate but I want a younger boy (least in theory for intergration purposes) she's beautiful.got a bunch of hatching eggs from her but they are her&my big Dom roo's offspring.
I can often feel movement, especially if they are internally pipped. Almost like a fluttering feeling.Have you changed your batteries lately or tried a different flashlight?
Does the egg still feel very warm when you hold it?
Sometimes I have "felt" movement in my hand on the final eggs.
I've also noticed, and its nothing "scientific", but DIS eggs seem to roll easily, like when barely touched with your finger, or when bumped by another chick. Ones with chicks still living inside will roll a little, but kinda like a weeble (showing my old age), they seem to go right back to the spot they were sitting on. I hope that makes sense.
Good, I'm not the only one! lol Glad to hear he's doing good. And do you have room under the chair, my son still sleeps with momma, even though I put his bed in my room!!!Yes! It did look like a rapture claw!!! Lol.
Monday is the last full day and then 3 half days and they are done!! No homework this week and my 10 year old was actually crying last night because "I'm bored"!!I made him go do laundry!! These kids!![]()
Jesse is doing good! Thanks for asking. He had a big infection in his scraped knee after a weekend at dads but he's on antibiotics and it's almost healed now.
You're doing really good for shipped eggs and your first time. Really, good job!!
I usually lock down late, actually. But that's mostly because I forget. I candle once a day and look for draw down, then lockdown. If your temps haven't been on the high side they should hatch normal day 20/21.
That's an idea. Going to try that!
This is why all my kids have slept with me till they are like 6 years old!![]()
So cute!! I miss my peachicks. But not enough to want to brood them again with their crying! Lol!
That first pic is soooooo adorable!! I just want to snuggle that one!
Good luck!!!!I need to remind myself before I buy/set eggs to check the hatch dates to see what's going on during hatch!! It's the last full week of school and so many parties/ceremonies/concerts and I'm hatching call ducks. What was I thinking??!!
I will be posting lots of pics later. I have one adorable, very hyper little call duck in the brooder. He's alert and nosey and a little piggie, eating and drinking non stop. So cute!! 1 egg internally pipped and I made a safety hole but when I went to open the safety hole the next morning it was dead. No extra fluid or anything and a perfect little duckling with half absorbed yolk but absolutely no veins anywhere. No obvious reason for death. The next one was a doozy! Made safety hole, after 24 hours internal pip. Then waited another 24 to make hole bigger. Then slowly assisted another 24 hours. No progress on its own. Gave it an extra 12 hours to be safe. Membranes were clear and the poor thing was drying out inside the shell. I helped pull back a little membrane (it just wiped away) and got the little head out and put it back. Noticed it was trying to push out but had a huge blob of goo on the foot. I took it out and there was blood everywhere!! Long story short, got blood to stop, yolk was absorbed and it's resting. Very weak but it's hanging in there. Very scary seeing blood. I've never had a bleeder before! I'll get pics when it's all fluffed. 6 local call eggs are in lockdown. 1 external pip & (as of last night) 1 internal. Here we go again...
I candle whenever I feel the need....but we all know I'm an extremist in my hands on....lolHey not even 1 of my Ameracaunas have pipped yet. Is it ok for me to candle them to check for an internal pip?
Yup!It would be good to clean up the old she'll and top off the water as well
Right on. They are so hard to find.. so many chicks out there are marked as ameracaunas. I love the easter eggers too. I wanted a few breeds that meet the breeds qualifications for my flock though. Just for fun.![]()
Are you looking for shipped pea eggs? I might have some soon....Thermometers oh-vey I use 3or 4&they never all read same temp. Makes ya bonkers if you let it, searching for pea-eggs. Bet your tooshie I'm getting new thermometers. Taking this way serious.
I candle all through hatch to see what's going on and make sure everyone is on a safe time line. But if there are very large pips, with chick & membrane exposed I don't.Hey not even 1 of my Ameracaunas have pipped yet. Is it ok for me to candle them to check for an internal pip?
Are you kidding!?! These are like the cutest chicks I've ever seen! And usually I only think my chicks are the cutest ever.

Lol. Mine slept with me till the baby was born and then all 4 of us couldn't fit. If it wasn't for the little guy they would still be sleeping with me. It is nice to have the extra too now, though.
