Hands on hatching and help

My hatch is almost over. Locked down 13 golden sebrights, 1 was questionable at lockdown, but I left it in. I dont think it will hatch, but 11 have so far and the 12th is pipped with beak showing.

4 lavender orpingtons locked down, 3 have hatched, nothing from the last, but its still day 21, so I'll leave it. I'm surprised they hatched on the end of day 20 anyway, they are usually 21/22 day-ers.

So I'm ecstatic with them so far. I've only moved the first 5 to the brooder, so the Brinsea is quite crowded with chicks right now! Waiting on that last one, then I'll move them and get some pics.

@audy5000g after having such a good hatch result, I'm more inclined to blame the post office for your issues. I was scared my birds had developed an unseen problem, but these look fine, so I'm standing by my birds. How are yours doing now?
I never thought it was you. The crippled one died 2 days ago. I have 1 golden and 1 rosecomb. They seem ok so far. Glad yours doing well.

I'm so sorry he didn't survive. And I didn't mean to imply you blamed me. I do feel terrible though, and was actually beginning to doubt my birds, that's all.

She picks the corn out of the cooked stuff and eats the fresh greens.  Most everything else she leaves alone, but she is eating and at some point yesterday she got off her nest long enough have the most disgusting poop ever. I wish I had been home as I could have seen how many eggs she has!

I got this hen as part of a little flock of five ($3/hen and a free rooster) at a poultry swap a few months ago.  Other than losing one hen to egg binding within a couple of weeks they are healthy, happy birds with modest appetites and terrific egg production.  The rooster is one of my favorite birds.  She can hatch as many babies as she likes.  She has one from each remaining hen and possibly a couple more of her own if she continued to lay for a day or two after going broody.

Sounds like they're a nice group!

Hopefully you'll get a peek at those eggs soon! :fl Is she pretty tolerant of you handling her? If she'll let you, you could lift her up a bit to see what she collected if the suspense gets to you lol.

The most handling she's ever had from me is moving her to her broody quarters in the dark of night. I am dying to know what's going on underneath her but common sense dictates I should just let her do her thing. In a week and a half all will be revealed!
