Hands on hatching and help

I put them in at 6 a.m. this morning. I don't have the cradle turned on yet, although the air cells looked really good! Only one pretty saddled and a couple wobbly. But overall I am happy. I think I'll plug in the turner tomorrow or Sunday.

Can't remember if I posted here or not, but one of my Serama hens must have seen the mail delivery yesterday and decided she wanted to sit too, so I gave her 5 of the eggs. So between the Bator and the broody, I have 27 starting!

How many did you set?

Yay! You have a lot cooking. I only set the 18 eggs. I have 2 dozen of my own eggs that are just a little to old to sell but are probably still viable and Mavis is laying an egg a day and they are fertile!! Don't ask who, when or where but they are clearly fertile. I also have 2 broodies at the moment but they aren't sitting on anything. I can't trust those girls to do the right thing once the eggs hatch. I have pretty birds but they lack common sense! I was thinking of setting some of my own eggs but I'm not sure if I should. The chicks would have to sell. I should make a local post to see if there's interest at this time.

I'm glad the mpc eggs were in good shape!! :highfive:

Good morning all. My Trader joes egg's are on day 21, yeah but i need to ask if it is actually day 21 or actually 20. When i set them it was a friday morning at 6 AM so i counted that as day 1. Well i read last night that the egg's need to have 24 Hrs be counted as day 1. Are my egg's on day 20 or is it hatch day and could it hurt the chick's if they went into lockdown a day early?

If you set them at 6am on a Friday then 6am this morning would start your day 21. Today should be hatch day until 6 am tomorrow morning. Any pips yet? And no locking down a little late or early won't hurt.

Can anyone tell me if I can incubate eggs from hens who are on antibiotics?  I know I can't eat them but I'm having trouble just throwing them away....
They are on a five day course of erythromycin since I brought some chickens home from the auction who ended up having some kind of respiratory chicken plague.  Two of the three died.

They should be viable for setting.

A couple of my Serama eggs I set were over 10 days old, but figured I might as well fill the bator :D

No no pips yet. I am so nervous. My last attemp ended in heartbreak.

I'm looking for talks best incubation ideas on settings?? Please, give me yer ideas on what's best? I've heard of dry incubation at first till hatch day. I think it was something like 30% humidity then 75% round hatchday. And have been told 99 degrees to keep it at. Please let me know how y'all have yer best success!

Standard sizeggs. I aim for 30%, dry if possible. But the key is to check the air cells to stay on target.

If you set on a Friday you expect hatch on Friday. Yes, it's 24 hours after set that day one starts.

My little scramble is on its way out... It's sleeping seperately on a heating pad but it doesn't have long. It doesn't seem to be in any pain I just don't have the heart I feel awful Ik I should just get it over w/... It hasn't eaten or drank at all since it hatched Monday night idk if it's internal organs were even formed right. I tried everything hand feeding droppering water. Ugh

Sorry to hear that.

Does anyone know if it's ok to start vaccinating chicks to add to an unvaccinated flock?

I was going to ask...

What are you vaccinating for?

I have 5 fresh eggs right now and she hasn't laid yet today. I might have 7 or 8 by Monday. They are yours if you wanna try them. I've just been using them for baking here and there or feeding them to the chickens. If you want them let me know and I'll move them down stairs. I just checked them and the air cells are all tiny.
What are you vaccinating for?

Definitely marek's and Newcastle.

Definitely marek's and Newcastle.

Marek's s fine, they use a turkey virus to do it. Just be aware though that it's a 'leaky' vaccine - it doesn't keep birds from getting it, it just prevents them from experiencing symptoms.

Newcastle's I'm not sure, I don't know much about that vaccine.

Alright, I give in, I'm hatching again! I just can't not set a batch from my new AC rooster. Plus one of my ducks is laying and it might be one of my female welshies, and if it is I want to hatch her eggs. I think I need to break out the food coloring to see who's laying, lol!
