Hands on hatching and help

My first batch goes into lock down tomorrow morning. I'm so excited.

I've tried to go by the book on how to be successful at hatching. I've worried and fretted over these little guys. And I've had some hard times with them. Even the electricity going out; ontop of when the heat fluctuated,so, these little guys are survivors! (I'm hoping for more girls than guys though)

So I have eggs heading into lockdown for hatch next Mon (2) the rest were clears only one is a bantam and 8 due Weds I'm worried the little bantam will hatch all by itself thoughts I will have little week olds it can go in w/ but they are in w/ 2 week olds so they are getting more rowdy.... Idk what I'm going to do w/ the poor little thing until the others hatch on Weds.... They are all locking down together but I won't leave it in there for 3 days + etc

Love it and give it lots of attention...lol My first hatch resulted in one lone hatcher. He was loud and upset if he wasn't right with us. Needless to say he became a very spoiled chicken. A feather duster/stuffed animal in the brooder may help. Many people add a small mirror for lone chicks.

:ya :ya

I just laid mine down and cranked up the humidity. Every hatch is still so exciting!

:fl

You might get an early hatcher from the other eggs. If not and you think it will be lonely then pull one of the smallest, sweetest tempered older ones you have and see if it will be a good baby sitter for a couple days. I had one that was a couple weeks old and finally had chicks hatch to give her company and she took right to them like a little mother!! She would snuggle and sit on them and go after my hand if I went to pick them up! She was only 2 or 3 weeks older.

Yay!! :yesss: So excited for you! And your mama hen!
I just had another hatch. And 8 more pips, I think. I got the brooder cleaned out and I'll move them over in the morning and check all the eggs quick. A lot will probably hatch over night! :jumpy
Bad pic but best I could get...

Good luck!

Yes, but the kids woke me up this morning telling me there were 2 white chicks that hatched. They don't actually look all white but they are light. Can't wait till they fluff to see what color they are. Just got some pics. The light one is in the back of the bator...

That looks splash?? Could it be paint?

I am a little torn. 2 eggs appear to be DIS or if not yet, on their way to be. Very faint "breathing" motion under the membrane. The 3rd and final egg seems to be an internal pip but I'm not 100% sure. It's not your typical internal pip. I can definitely see some kind of movement in the air cell and when I tap on the shell I definitely hear something in return...kinda a tapping or scratching noise in response. I think I heard peeping-faintly but with so much peeping from the brooder and incubator I can't be positive it was from the egg. Definitely not the usual, healthy peeping you hear from an internal pip. I've got a lot going on in general right now and I'm debating on what to do. I really don't want to deal with a chick with big issues right now but what if it's a perfectly healthy chick that just got a little mixed up in position. Hmmmm. Should I make a tiny hole, enough to take a peek and see what's going on??

Could be splash, you're right! Not paint, I don't think. She does not breed any paint. All the chicks are in a sleeping coma right now. I don't like to really mess with them until they are up on their feet & looking around for trouble. But once they are I can't wait to examine each chick and check out their traits. I'll get pics of the two lighter ones too.
