Hands on hatching and help

Just candled my eggs at day four. Would I see any veining on blue and brown eggs by now? The yolk seemed to float around quite a bit. I only have three eggs in the bator, would it hurt to add more at this point?

I feel like I can see hints of veining in this one, I'm probably just jumping the gun. lol I won't worry about anything till about day 7-10

Won't hurt to add more today but I wouldn't after tomorrow. You can stop turning on the fourteenth day without hurting the eggs. I enlarged the picture and can't make out any clear veins . On light brown eggs you can see veins on day four . On dark brown eggs such as Marans eggs you'll almost never see the veins .For first time hatchers I recommend taking pictures at set so you have them to compare to later days in incubation .Along with veining the egg white will turn cloudy around the yoke and slowly turn cloudy to the bottom of the egg . Good luck with your incubation .

Here is the little one you helped me hatch :)

It's a polish mixed with a Millie fleur bantam.

It's toes were a bit curled and the right leg a tiny bit crooked so I did my first attempt at bandaid boots lol. I think I made them too big though. I don't think it has splayed legs or tendon issues, but I am not 100% sure so may need to make a leg brace also? Oh my goodness this this one has taken up all my time today and last night lol! Glad my family was happy to ring in the new year with my chicks lol! It made an exciting time for my kids for sure!

Congrats! How's the leg doing? Is it turned outward or is it just the pic?

That was the famous Easter Egger we had.  His name was Scout, and his saga is the stuff  of legends!  You can read his entire story by clicking on Frostbitten feet, the Adventures of Scout, one of the links in my signature.

Nothing at all wrong with being a duck....unless you came out of the egg expecting to be a chicken!  :lau

I'm thinking he came out expecting to be what he was, but everyone on the outside was expecting different? Lol

I wish i had waited longer. Even tho it is day 23, i opened the air cell and the chick's were malpsitioned. I got their heads into the air. I put them back in the bator as they had not absorbed all of the yolk and now they are no longer chirping or moving. I am so sad. Cant afford to get eggs on the auction page. Waiting for disability to start.

Here's the thing, day 23, no internal pip, malepositioned and the yolks not absorbed-had a very very slim chance of ever making it out. Even if you hadn't intervened, the end result probably would have been chicks DIS. How many were there that were malpositioned and were they extra wet/excess fluid in the egg?

The chick is now doing great and is even running and jumping a bit! I took bandaid shoes of but then she wouldn't stop pecking at her toes and still seemed to favor the right slightly. So I put them back on for another day or so. She seems to do fine, but the right leg does turn slightly outward. Should I put a leg brace on as well? I can stretch the leg back and don't feel any tendon issues...that I can tell....but I am new to this...

I honestly don't know if bracing would help it. My very first hatcher was a late developer due to unknown low temps. As a chick you couldn't notice leg problems but as he grew and put on weight it became very apparent and eventually you could see his leg was pretty much what I am seeing in your picture "knee" had turned into the body more so the foot/bottom leg turned out. He was my special needs baby for a little over a year before he died.

X2. This is basically exactly what I was going to say. I had the same thing happen last hatch. I knew my temps had been low and I could very clearly see 2 of the eggs had draw down and the chicks were moving around against the membrane. I knew they would not hatch and I was almost tempted (for educational purposes) to go in and try to find the beak and pull it out. I didn't do it though. I didn't turn off the incubator until I was sure they were both DIS. There is really nothing much you can do at that point.

Well the turner saga continues. I gave up on trying to fix it and sent them an email on the 31st. Didn't expect a reply back immediately because of the holiday, but still hadn't heard from them so I called them yesterday. Got a guy who told me I had to mail the turner back in so they could repair it (they're not going to be able to repair it short of taking it entirely apart and putting in a new arm, so good luck) and I had to pay the shipping myself. That made me a little frustrated because where I work, we would never make a customer pay out of their own pocket to send back a defective item, AND we would have sent out the new replacement item right away before they even mailed theirs back, especially if they needed it right away, which I told them I did.

Whatever, I have eggs coming this week (they got in today actually) so I have no choice, I have to follow the rules. I got it all packed up last night and ready to go out today. I wake up this morning and they finally emailed me back. Okay, good, I'll just let them know I called and all is well.

Except all the email says is "Did you send your turner back yet?" That's it. No detailing of the return process, no letting me know that I was supposed to send it back like I would expect since my email had asked them what I was supposed to do. Nope, just did you send it back yet?

I'd let that slide and think maybe the person who I spoke to last night left a message or something that I was sending it back, but then why send an email the very next morning demanding to know if I had sent it back? Did they not check the date? No acknowledgement that I had said I need the new turner ASAP either.

And then I got to the PO to mail it out and it cost me $10 to send it back. So yeah, not pleased. Happy they're honoring the warranty, but not really happy with the customer service and having to pay out of my own pocket to get it fixed.

Now luckily I have my Eco 20 too, which also has an autoturner, so I'll still be okay to hatch and not have to try to remember to hand turn, but seriously, what if I didn't?

I think the hardest part is knowing that they are still alive, being fairly certain the are malpositioned, and knowing there really isn't much you can do that is going to result in a positive outcome at that point.

Hey guys I have an emergency.. My mama hen left all her 1 week old babys out in the cold. 3 died and the rest are laying down shivering and chirping. Ibe brought them in the house under the heat lamp. Is there anything else I can do for them?
