Hands on hatching and help

Seramas have a lethal gene? I didn't know that! Sorry for the not so great hatch :hugs

Well, it's turning out not to be as dismal as I thought. Will continue below, because it kinda pertains to dcba flock's situation...

Another junkie hatch never a dull moment. I just started using the Dickeys cabinet incubator and had been doing staggered hatches well after my last batch dried out and shrink wrapped I moved the latest 2 hatches into separate smaller hatchers one due last night one due tomorrow some from both hatched no problem others pipped made no progress and started looking dried out (24 hours post pip a cpl partially zipped etc) so I started meddling and some of the babies were huge some dried out while others had so much liquid even w/ good sized air cells almost like jello some malpositioned etc. all were started in the same incubator under the same conditions in SMH over here I might be able save some but idk what my issue is... in the past they are ALL something not a mix...? The dark eggs that I have had on the wetter side before are normal the light colored eggs are dripping wet.... I internally pipped for the wet ones and tried to drain the liquid somewhat (not a lot of blood or bleeding) 3 were DIS. Any thoughts insight would be so appreciated

I seemed to have similar results this hatch. The first couple that hatched were really wet and sticky. A few hatched perfectly with no problems. Now I have done 4 full assists that were internally pipped, but very dry.

My theory is major fluctuating humidity since I put them in the hatcher. I didn't recalibrate my hydros and they are way off from each other, so I was kinda winging it with the same sponges that I used last hatch. But with one being very low, I kept adding water here and there, and I think I screwed up. The good news is, I think I'm going to end up with 9 of 11 of my cochins!

Had your humidity been steady?

No I'm thinkIng that is completely the issue I tried to stagger hatch so I had the humidity my normal 30-40% then when I would lockdown a batch I would jump it up as I had an "experienced" hatcher tell me he runs his whole time at 65% w/o issue so no big deal... I have had a few the last few rounds doing it this way w/ funky feet and again either dry or super wet... so I'm not going to run a staggered hatch again and see what the results are if I set everything together (like 6 dzn) and then hatch them all together. I love spending the $ I spent on this thing just to have more headaches than I had running my little cheapo crappy incubators that now I have to hatch in anyway...

65 the whole time for me would definitely drown them all!

And one stagger lockdown change shouldn't be too bad, but I wouldn't try it multiple times on the same eggs. I mean like setting every few days, and the newest eggs go thru lockdown like 3 times before their own time. Once maybe wouldn't be too bad.

I also had the heat spike, the night of lock down, so I think maybe the ones with more fluid, the higher heat made it jelly, but the drier ones, the extra heat really dried them out.

Xs 2 65% for most using a table top incubator would. I'd guess he either has a cabinet incubator or hygrometers that he's never checked.

I am so sad and freaking out! This is my second hatch and last night was lockdown. I moved all the eggs out of the turner. My daughter came in some time later hollering the temp was 113!!! I dont know How long it was like that or how in the world it did that!! Last hatch at lock down it was hard to keep at 100.
Temp is down now to 101... There were 10 buff orps and 20 polish . It is hard to see through the buff orps eggs but in several I am seeing movement. I put a ? On the ones I cant see. With the polish I am seeing movement but the 4 that are towards the middle I can clearly see a blood spot and light veins. There was movement last night but none today. I am just so sad!! I hope the ones that are showing movement are ok!! We will see! :(

I'd say the latter is a definite possibility! :D

Sounds like you caught it soon enough Movement today is a good sign . Glad DD checked it . I have been struggling with humidity this set . If I fill the cabinet humidity pans it spikes so I never us them even a single sponge in a small pan will raise it to high . It just takes constant monitoring to make sure everything stays on target and even then . Well things just happen .Good Luck !

Thanks...I am having issues with humidity, when it gets to 60 the temp goes down to 97. I cant seem to keep the humidity at 60 and the temp at 100. ??

I never have done this before last week, but I actually plugged a couple of vent holes (extras that I had poked in they styro for ease of adding water with straws) and it helped hold much better. Definitely don't close them all, but something to consider.

So all you did was move the eggs out the turner and the temp jumped up to 113 Or you tweaked the thermostat some too after removing the turner?? Good Luck!
