Happy Hen Chicken Rescue!

1) What does the original "farm" think you're doing with their battery hens? And why can they not know that you're rescuing them?

2) The Animal Place may be a long drive, but it will be worth it for the hens you rescue for the remainder of their lives.

3) When I let mine out and cleaned their coop (per usual every morning at 630) there was blood on the roost, shelf below and all over the head/neck of one of my originals. I was and am still shocked and upset, because I have no idea what happened or why. And I don't need everyone telling me that that's just what chickens do. I only have seven who get along fine and she is one of the top chicks who they all like and respect.

We are considering taking a few hens the day of or after they rescue those hens, just because I am concerned that if I am always getting hens from where I get them now, the farm will suspect I am running a rescue. And because I have always wanted to see Animal Place! :)
What's wrong if they notice you have a rescue?!?

That's exactly what I was wondering...

From roostersandhens' posts, it makes me not exactly want to do "business" with the Animal Place. I was considering rescuing hens from them, but now I likely won't. Organizations like those make me worry.

And besides, if this Animal Place rescues them, aren't they pretty much safe? I would get more from where you got your originals.

I don't know what they think we are doing.. The thing is, the farmers are very very sensitive. They don't want anyone to tell them that they are abusing the hens. So you don't want to use the term rescue in front of them at all. And if they found out I had a rescue they would most likely stop giving hens to the public at all, which I don't want to happen. Because then they will assume that I am telling others how abused these hens at laying facilities are, which is a huge threat to the industry.

Yes it will be worth it. I think I am going up there on the 22nd and the 23rd to adopt some hens and get a tour. I want the tour so I can learn from how they run their rescue, and my rescue will certainly be better after I see that.

I am afraid I don't know what to tell you about that. But I sure hope everything is alright. It is awful when they peck at each other, if that is what is going on. I guess.. Good Luck!

Please adopt hens from them. And what do you mean by "organizations like those". I don't exactly see why my posts would make you not want to adopt hens from them.

Yes, the hens at animal place would be safe. I will get many hens from where I got the first hens along with hens from Animal Place. I just have very limited places to rescue hens from, and the more different places the better. I will probably only get 6 hens from Animal Place, so I still can rescue lots of hens from the original place.
