First world chickens
I'm Natasha, new mom to Myrtle, Hazel, Poppy and Daisy. My ladies are two Speckled Sussex, one Barred Rock and one Golden Neck D'uccle.
Obsessive research and planning went out the window once they arrived. Now I obsess over making sure I am doing everything right. Coming here is so helpful. Knowing that there are many right ways to do things, and already learning to trust my babies to tell me what they need.
Best things so far in the first week:
1. Running outside to get them some sod at 10pm to give them a scratch box.
2. Adding a mirror on the wall of their brooder for enrichment and watching them jet across to admire themselves.
3. My husband went out to the workshop 30 minutes before going to work to make them a low little roost out of our grapevine trimmings.
4. The fact that it only took about five minutes to recognize each distinct personality.
5. Silent nights with them sleeping soundly under their radiant heating plate.
Looking forward to the trials, tribulations and love with my new flock.
