I am married, I am a medication aide, live in Texas, no human children, three floppy eared four legged kids of the canine species, 1 male and two female. I ventured into keeping chickens two years ago, starting with 6 RIR chicks from Atwoods; Reba, Rosie, Ruby, Rita, Rusty and Hershey. Once they started laying eggs for me, I had so much fun finding eggs each day and just watching their antics, I decided they needed a rooster. The first one was not acceptable to the girls and they pretty much hen pecked him pretty bad. Luckily the guy that brought me the first one, had another that was more to their liking, so now we also have Roy. After all that my girls were just not broody enough for my liking and we lost Rita and Rosie unexpectedly. Recently after some research on your website, I went back to Atwoods and acquired 4 barred rock pullet chicks( Stinkers, Sassy, Sissy and Stacy) and 3 cute yellow ducklings ( Daisy, Daphne and Delilah) from Tractor Supply that have turned out to be buff orpingtons. I am learning as I go, reading information on your website and from friends that have chickens and ducks of their own.
I look forward to the adventure and advice I hope to have as a member here on Backyard Chickens.com

Welcome to Backyard chickens. Maybe the first rooster was rude to them . I'm guessing the replacement roo is suave. No telling what hens will like.

Welcome to BYC. Glad you decided join our flock. Which part of Texas are you in? My wife and I were both raised in the great state of Texas. Please feel free to ask any questions you may have. We are here to help in any way we can. Good luck with your flock.

Hi, welcome to BYC!

I like how you named your birds by breed. Chickens are fun to watch, they can be so comical.

It's nice to have you here, if you have any questions feel free to ask!

You're welcome. My wife and I both grew up not far from where you are (Blue Ridge, TX, or her; Greenville, TX, for me). I've been fishing on Lake Ray Hubbard a number of times.
