Hard Crop Not Clearing

Did somebody call me an old lingering fart? Okay!
:lau Well, no, but if you are, you’re in great company. :hugs

She’s back in her pen, standing up sleeping. I wonder if she can “feel it coming” and is getting a short nap before it all hits the fan? :lau:lau

I’m gonna make a few rounds on the mower and then come back in to check her. Let’s keep our fingers crossed. :fl

Did you come back in from mowing to a massive poop mess? :fl
I checked on her several times during my mowing and came upon a scene...the likes you’ve never seen.

Holy poop-oly, Chick Woman! Chicken s#!+ splattered everywhere, for real. Towels, water bowl, feed bowl, sides of the pen. You name it, it got it. Luckily, the smell was not that bad as it didn’t contain much “matter,” mainly just water, but still.

I don’t know if a large amount of sugar does to a chicken what it does to a kid, but this girl was fo sho a “boot scootin and pooping!”

Now I just need to know what this flush is suppose to accomplish. Her crop is back to being hard and full and she had not had anything to eat except some of what she didn’t eat last night (maybe a teaspoon of what remained). I just can’t imagine what is going on. AND she wants out bad. I know she is planning a jail break. She is one determined chick!

Well, mission accomplished. Sorry about the unholy mess. The flush was supposed to clear out any blockage in her intestines so when the mass breaks up in her crop, she can move it on down and out.

After you clean up the "treatment room", have a cup of caffeine, and the patient has had a chance to stretch her legs and relax, it's time to do one final dose of oil and a stool softener. Also, be sure this young lady has access to some quality grit. Just offer it and see if she'll take some. I know you're concerned she has a crop full of grit, but we don't know for sure, and a chicken won't eat grit if they don't need it.

Do you have castor oil? If so, use that this time. If not, use mineral oil. If you haven't got that, just use the coconut oil. But include the stool softener with it. Give it half an hour to work and then do a ten minute massage, very gently, like you're kneading a tight muscle. Keep your fingers moving around. You should feel the mass give and start to soften and fall apart.

The crop drain is about one third up from the bottom. Aim for that as you soften the mass, and push it toward the drain. Let the patient rest, and do more massage after about ten minutes of rest.

My bad! Her “urgency” to get out earlier, was obviously to find a spot to lay her egg. Yep, another egg today.

She is pecking all around on the bathroom floor. I guess I haven’t swept it in a while. :idunno I will go up to the coop and get her some grit right now. But I won’t give it to her until after the oil and stool softener. Just to make sure, I give her only ONE of the stool softeners? Is that correct, @azygous? I think she’ll gobble it up tonight. Heck, she might even gobble the coconut oil. I’m sorry, but that’s the only one I have out of the three. Castor Oil? Are you kidding? Do they even sell that stuff anymore? Thank goodness I didn’t go over my due date with either pregnancy or my MIL would have been telling me, “Here honey. Take some of this and that little baby will be here in no time!”:barnie No thank you, ma’am!

When you get the hard mass broken up, softened, and the crop at least partially emptied, you need to begin yeast treatment or it's not going to empty completely.

Miconazole is the easiest to obtain. It's just women's vaginal yeast cream. Squeeze off half an inch and wipe it off your finger inside her beak. Do this twice a day for a full seven days.
