I disliked Hardie planks, assuming it was made of nasty stuff like asbestos, but I was wrong. Turns out that Hardie board siding is 90 percent sand and cement. So now I use it for coops, knowing it won't rot, mice have a heck of time chewing thru it, and I can just toss it in a pile and crush it when it's time to dispose of it.
Now when I see folks towing it to the dump and paying money to dump it ... sand and cement, oh well. I've also seen folks burn it, in fact there was a pile of ashes and Hardie board out in the dump area of our acreage when we moved in. The PO had passed away so I couldn't ask him about why he burned Hardie board. When burnt it just breaks down into find sand quicker that way, but there is no need to burn it.
