Harris Farms Nurture Right 360 Incubator is AMAZING!

If you open the spoiler tab I included some images of some assisted hatches that I did. They aren't your exact situation but they will make it easier to show you kind of what to expect to see inside the egg. First I candle the egg and mark the air cell. I use a screw sterilized with rubbing alcohol to carefully score and pick at the egg to open a hole in the air cell. I'm careful not to push because you can see how close the chick can be to the shell even when it looks like they're further away when candling.

Ok, so I want to go through the air cell.... Once I'm through, I should see the white, papery membrane. Watch to see if it is moving? If no movement, it is likely DIS. If movement is detected, I can apply ointment which will make the membrane translucent so I can see if there are any veins (not ready to hatch) or no veins (ready to hatch)? Then what?

The ointment should be antibacterial ointment WITHOUT pain reliever or coconut oil but the ointment lasts much longer than the oil, which would need to be reapplied more often. I use a Q-tip to gently apply.
At this point, I would think you will at least see an internal pip, which can also be seen when candling. I have a feeling that once you candle you will be able to tell if the chick is alive or not without even needing to open the egg, unless you want to. You would need to evaluate what you're seeing before you can determine what needs to be done next.

This article has very graphic pictures but is extremely educational on the subject.

OK, I've confirmed. 3rd egg is a quitter... I candled and there was no movement. I went ahead and broke into the air cell... The immediate smell told me all I needed to know. 😒

I'm sorry it was a quitter but I'm glad you have two healthy happy babies! :hugs

It's a bummer that I only got 2 eggs out of 5 that made it to the end, but I guess it is to be expected since they are older hens (3+ yrs) and its outside of prime laying season.

Last night my daughter and I were holding the babies whom we've affectionately named Pip (yellow chick) and Cricket (brown chick). I noticed that Pip was shivering so I put him/her in under my hoodie on my chest. He/She snuggled right in and was happy as a clam. This morning when I called to them, they came running out to me from under the MHP. :yesss:

Still no word on when my Alabama Silkie hatching eggs might ship. I called them and the response was a bit disappointing. Basically, they can't give me any kind of estimate on WHEN they might ship. He THINKS they will ship in the next 2 weeks, but can't promise. So I guess I will wait to see what happens and not start another batch of eggs until I receive the Silkie eggs. :/
