Harvey the Great is Dying. . .

I just went through the same type of situation with my young cockrel. If you can get your state ag lab to do a fecal grams stain you might find the same diagnosis I did. The vet we saw sent me home with cefazolin to inject him with every 12 hours for 4 days. It pulled him through. Here is a link to my thread. Maybe you can get antibiotics from TSC.

Just researched the efficacy of penicillin against clostridium (we ended up with 3 sick birds including the roo. Grams stain determined we were dealing with that bacteria) So...good news is you can get penicillin at Tsc and it does treat clostridium. Maybe @casportpony can weigh in with dosage info for injection.

You have given me something to treat Harvey for, that is the good news. The bad news is that TSC (or anywhere else) has any antibiotics, ever. California (if you don't live here, DON'T Come here) has restricted the use and sale of antibiotics for all livestock. You can only get it with a Rx from a Vet, which I don't have and can't get. I even went to Petco thinking I could get fish tetracycline, but that is included in the new laws and they don't carry that either. Damn! I got some Corid and locked Harvey up in the empty brooder with it in his water, maybe that will help. https://www.cdfa.ca.gov/ahfss/aus/docs/Antimicrobial_Availability_Vet.pdf

Give Harvey a fighting chance!! Don't dispatch him yet!!
I haven't and I won't until he is at the brink-I think. He's too big and strong to hold down if it's not his idea right now. Even my husband couldn't hold him, and husband is 6'2" and 225 lbs. I'll do everything I can for him first. He's my boy! :fl
