Germany plans on ending male chick killing by 2016
I guess they developed a lazer that can tell gender of a egg at just 3 days of incubation. .
I think its interesting ..thought maybe some of you have more info on it.

Had not heard about it until this thread, so I researched, and yes...that is looking to be feasible.

Here is a PubMed article:
http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/21479544

And the Poultry Site article
http://www.thepoultrysite.com/poultrynews/34741/germany-aims-for-chicken-sexing-in-the-egg-by-2016/

This could save the industry lots of dollars and waste disposal. I also suspicion those of us who want roosters will find an increase in their value, in time. So are the days of the free rooster to be gone?

Maybe a small version will be avaliable for breeders.. I hope so

I heard of it. And I am quite hopefull that we (i am German) will fix this. But i am not sure if it could made in time, till 2016 as told.

I think the main problem it's too slow 20 seconds per egg.. can you imagine doing a 10000 egg incubator.
But there making it faster. ..sounds like that's what's slowing them up.

I've heard of it but, 20 seconds per egg, maybe damaging to those that are female !!!
